Weege

Story

Weege is a songwriter and vocalist from the Denver, Colorado area, but originally from Northern California. Weege Logo 1999 kicked off Weege’s initial music career as a frontman for a funk laden groove band called the Floppy Rods. This morphed into the inner workings of Weege’s more passionate stylings and also a pioneering, reggae-rock band by the name of 880 South. Weege’s musical origins come from his family’s passion for music. As a multi-instrumentalist he can play guitar, bass, drums and keys and is known for his singing voice. He develops and records his own songs and collaborates with other songwriters when needed for album work. Weege in StudioWeege is reggae-ish. Following the tradition of Reggae, Soul & Rock N' Roll. A hybrid of sorts, he has combined the old and the new by reforming as Weege & 880 South. The best way to describe the sound is by way of syncopated undertones with bubble keys, jazzy guitar notes, Motown driven vocals matched with chunky, warm bass lines and crisp, rootsy drums. Lyrically, Weege has developed into an upbeat sophist with his heart on a sleeve. Having the experience of fatherhood and love has made him a wiser and more positive storyteller. With comparisons to artists like the Dirty Heads, Pepper and UB40, Weege adds his own unique splash of unique soul and motown influences. Naturally, it comes from his musical upbringing on bands like Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, Queen, The Police, Funkadelic, Fiji and UB40. 2020 plans include recording 3 albums in one year and possibly touring if conditions allow. The June release of “Pathos” is underway with a plan to tour. Also in the plans are collaborations and studio work with Clev Stiles from Kruel Summer, Mark LeBlanc from Project 432, Greg Medeiros from 880 South and Raul Bianchi from the Expendables. Weege also wrote and collaborated on a song titled “The Girls” on The Holdup’s album “Still Gold”. You can find previous Weege albums, “Good Love” and “FM Gold” on Spotify, Amazon Music and Apple Music. His 3rd album titled Pathos is available on Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

streaming music needs to offer more profitable streaming revenues or if not profitable, easier to cross promote and move across social platforms. It's too locked down to be giving us pennies to the million plays. There needs to be some balance without over saturation and white noise making Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon too easy to overlook. There needs to be a clearer path for artists that use these streaming platforms who put in the hard work and promote and grind.
