Wakambi

Story

Wakambi is a funk rock/hip-hop fusion based in Walvis Bay, Namibia and was formed in 2015. The 4-piece project was brought together by the love for music and mythology, blending Afrikaans spoken word with English vocals. Wakambi are Nomad Beukes, Izzy Martin, Tyron Roetz and Tara Jay. Wakambi's name and music pays tribute to Credo Mutwa, a Zulu sangoma and author. His work 'Indaba, My Children' is an acclaimed compendium of African tribal history, legends, customs and religious beliefs and a deep source of inspiration for the musical group. The first is the story of the first people, the first tribe - the Wakambi. Lead by non other than the mother of music herself - the beautiful goddess Marimba, who brought the first songs and instruments to the world.
