Trevor Toews

Story

Hi folks. I was born in Saskatchewan, and raised in various places through-out Manitoba. I accepted Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord in 1980. I have been married to an awesome lady, Patricia, since 1982 and we live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I am a Heavy Duty mechanic. I love to sing the songs that Father God has given me over the years. Most of them are songs about His love, and the things He likes to do in our lives to make them better and brighter. There are also a few few secular songs that are reflections about where I have lived, and the life that I have lived so far. I am also becoming interested in doing a few cover songs of artists that have become dear to all of us. What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music to me is a gift from God, and a blessing that ministers to the soul. The music that I receive, and express, is a lot of healthy things: a vent, a safe place (a workshop) in my heart and mind whereby I can work out the "things" going on in my soul and spirit that I cannot easily find expressions for. Writing songs helps me to find words that express matters in my heart. As I have received feed-back from many folks now, it also provides a sense of satisfaction and purpose for my life in that folks have been blessed and encouraged in their daily grind through life.

What is your music dream?

To sing my songs to many many more folks, and that many lives will be saved in so many ways by committing their lives to Jesus Christ.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

Although I have my own convictions of right and wrong, I pray that there would be more respect for others' points of view, and then let God sort it out. ;)

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

Hmmmm . . . Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so .

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Countryish with touches of rock.

What inspires you to make music?

I believe that God inspires me to write the songs that I have written. These inspirations have come from many unexpected sources; sometimes a scenery, a sound, a message, a theme that I pick up while reading the Bible, something that I sense is right from the heart of God Himself, another song, response to something I have heard, and the list goes on. ;) lol

What is the message you want to send with your music?

The message that I would like to send with my songs is that God loves you, that He wants you to come to a saving faith in His Son Jesus Christ, and that He has an undeniable, distinctive, and positive purpose for you.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

Although there is always a touch of nervousness, I feel like I am fulfilling my purpose; to honour God and that I am ministering life to every heart in the audience.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

The reality for every musician is the purpose for each musician has been created and called.

What do you think of Drooble?

So far, I have come to really appreciate what this platform has given me; a place to express the musical calling on my life. ? I have also come to appreciate the budding relationships that have come about because of the limited relationships that are developing with fellow artists. I also dearly appreciate the steadfastness of those who have developed Drooble. They aren't gouging people so as to make themselves a ton of $$$, and changing the rules as they go, like some other websites have gone. ?

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Not being able to express what I feel inside, and getting my songs to as many folks as possible.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

When I can; by showing up to performances and announcing others' performances on social media.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

A soft heart, the resolve to be one's self, and to have a decent ear for music so as to make it palatable.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

Camille Parkman, Canada's Double Portion, Byron Fester, David Carl Mayfield, and numerous native artists; to name a few.
