After today's improv (which I'll upload later), I went back in to give it a listen while observing the piano roll, and was astounded to see some of the architecture of the piece (see photo). I knew I was obsessed with symmetry, but I didn't realize it was this wired in to appear in an improv like this.
Lol. Yeah I guess. They tell you that when you pursue music as a child that you’re science and math skills get to be pretty developed. My science aptitude is really high but my math skills are deplorable. And same here I quit helping my kids with math after a certain grade. Trigonometry threw me for a loop in high school. My math teacher was more than gracious on my final grades. Yeah for sure Bach’s contrapuntal designs were monstrous and he was able to improvise with it! No wonder many of the composers studied that stuff to get to where they got to. I wonder if he was deplorable with his math skills too?
That's nuts! If you didn't pursue music, you probably would have been equally adept in the engineering field. That's really interesting and revealing at how your mind works in the creative process. 👍
Perhaps writing about music is like dancing about architecture, who knew? ;)
Music paints a picture my friend. We may not always understand the somewhat abstract relationship.... but it's there!
An interesting representation of your piece Stephen. I'm looking forward to the wave form representation in the new Drooble interface; it will show interesting comparisons between light and shade enthusiasts and the loudness war merchants!
I could hang that on my studio wall I could.
funny how such things come to be. what i remember of salsa dancing was i was always doing 2 moves togheter i suppose learned it that way or a bad habbit but watching some videos back just like youre picture you start to notice those things
That's wild... People that have been playing for many years like myself and you have habits and routines. Fingerings and styles that we play without thinking about them. Your's shows up very clearly. :)
