What is music to you? What does it give you?

I follow a songwriter’s page on Facebook. Everyone there is obsessed with writing shit songs for money. It’s a little depressing. How can we pander? How can we write our song to someone so it will become No. 1 — with a bullet! Ironically, many of these people are religious while my disposition is: Music should be honest and have pure artistic intentions. I pretend music is being heard at the throne of a creator, yet I’m the atheist. That’s not to say it wouldn’t be a decent living to write jingles, but that’s just a soulless job. I also think writing movie scores would be fun, rewarding work. Keyboards now have an entire orchestra and rock band on them — seemingly every musical sound on Earth. Anyway, that page is still depressing. Music is everything more than commerce.
