Todd Hunt

Bio

My name is Todd Hunt. I've been around for a long time. I've managed to learn a few things over the years. I have toured professionally and played some big places and I have loaded up my car with 10,000 dollars worth of equipment to drive 350 miles to play some tiny hole in the wall dive in front of 3 people and make 12 dollars...to split between the band. I play guitar and mandolin. Some drums on the side and the bass, if needed. I could throw a stick out my window and hit 10 musicians that are better players than me, but I have better equipment. Ha-Ha! I don't have any communicable diseases and I am up-to-date on all my shots.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

Besides an empty bank account? It sounds stupid because everybody says this but music is everything. Music can make problems disappear. Music soothes the savage beast.

What is your music dream?

I wanna jam with Brad Paisley.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

Me. Michael Jackson said it best. Look in the mirror and change yourself. Start being thankful for what you do have and stop bitching about what you don't have and quit complaining.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

Cats in The Cradle by Harry Chapin. I saw Harry Chapin live at Central Michigan University when I was just really little and I can still remember that show because he cursed like 10,000 times and I mean the really bad curse words.

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Waylon Jennings, Van Halen, Brad Paisley, Buck Owens, Don Rich, Merle Haggard, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton

What inspires you to make music?

It was girls. Hey, every musician got started because girls love musicians. Now it's just having fun playing live. Creating something cool. Some nights you play and you are on top of your game. Other nights, you suck. That's cool.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

Have fun in life. Life's too short to be grumpy.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

Like Tom Brady winning another Superbowl.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

Talent. American Idol and YouTube ruined music.

What do you think of Drooble?

Very cool.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

People that take us for granted and don't respect us. They want you to come play a gig and then say, we can't afford to pay you. I don't come to your restaurant and ask for a free meal. Have some respect. Pay the bands.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

Yes. I try to check out all the local bands that I can when I'm not playing.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

I'm playing in front of 6 people. I don't think I can honestly answer that.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

Melissa Lee. She is a great new country singer. Awesome talent.
