"The Silvertones"

Story

In 1964, three vocalist, Delroy Denton, Keith Coley, and Gilmore Grant came together to form the group called, „The Silvertones“. In 1965 they recorded the singles, „True Confession“ and „It’s Real“, both produced by Duke Reid. Produced by Duke Ried and released on the Dr. Bird label, gave the group instant success in Jamaica. The Silvertones released „Cool Down“, with Duke Reid. They also released a cover version of Wilson Pickett’s song 1968, entitled, „In The Midnight Hour“. Other singles included „Old Man River“, in addition to, „Slow and Easy“ on Duke Reid’s Treasure Isle label. They recorded for Sonia Pottinger songs like, „Guns Fever“, and „All In One“. 1971 they recorded "Tear Drops Will Fall" for Clancy Eccles. The next milestone in their carrieer was to work with Sir Coxson Dodd at "Studio One", there the group recorded many songs. "The Silvertones" had also recorded under the name, "The Valentines". A few hit songs under this group name were recorded, like, "Guns Fever (also called Bam Bam Fever)", "Old Man Says", and "Stop The Violence". Delroy migrated to the United States and Joel aka Kush Brown adequately filled the spot. In the late 60’s and early 1970’s. The Silvertones worked with Lee “Scratch” Perry initially as „The Muskyteers“ contributing a version of Book Benton’s, „Kiddy-O“ to Perry’s album. Lee „Scratch“ Perry produced their debut album, „Silver Bullets“, voiced at King Tubby’s Studio, in one night. It was released on Perry’s Black Ark Label and on Trojan Records in the UK/1974, in two different mixes. In the late 1970’s, The Silvertones had successful singles with, „I Want To Be There“, „Smile“, „Stop Crying“, „Have a Little Faith“, and „Come Forward“. They worked again with Clement “Coxsone” Dodd’s Studio One. The Silvertones Studio One recordings where collected together along with some of Duke Reid’s productions, such as „Young At Heart“ album in 1999. The group has performed on many shows including, Rototom Sunsplash Festival (Spain), Reggae Geel Festival (Belgium), Reggae Jam Festival (Germany), Yaam (Germany), Rebel Salute Festival, Stars R Us, Studio One Anniversary, Heineken Startime, Fully Loaded and also in UK, to name a few. At present, The Silvertones released their new album, Things Gonna Change. There are also two new albums in progress "Push The Fire" produced in USA and a special album called "Wonderland Of Green". This album will be backed by the legendary Lloyd Parks Band. The Wonderland Of Green album will be a traditional Album, recorded the old way. Joel, Keith and Anthony, are also members of the German association called “Action Speaks Louder Than Words”. This Organization stands for the needs of the Jamaican Vintage Artists. A special event called Action for Charity, was held in September 2016 in Jamaica, with live stream to Germany and also in Germany 2017, with a The Silvertones live performance. The Silvertones are also part of the “Vintage Allstars”. It includes groups like KushArt and The Heptones. All three groups performed in 2017 at the Reggae Jam Festival together, the Jamaican Reggae Music History, from Ska to Rocksteady to Roots Reggae. In April 2016, Gilmore Grant passed away. „Brother, we thank you and may you rest in peace“. We welcome, Anthony Feurtado as the new member. Keith Coley, Anthony Feurtado, and Joel aka Brown continue to hold the flag up high for The Silvertones.
