Music , to me , is the easiest form of expression; the one that comes easiest and most naturally. And the act of writing music is an absolute necessity for me. It’s a constant urge, almost an addiction
To write one great song. Truly great.
There’s so much that needs to change. In order to change it we need better communication. Access to information and the ability to understand and interpret that information correctly. I would change the way people receive information so that everyone has access to genuine facts and so that untruths are flagged and explained. Not censorship. Just greater accountability for what you say in public, so you can’t lie or twist facts. If we had that we could move so many things forward.
Stand by R.E.M.
Early on it was Elvis Presley, when I was 9 or 10 years old. Bob Dylan is a big favourite of my father’s so I’ve always loved his music too. When I was a teenager I got into Nirvana, R.E.M. , Radiohead, smashing pumpkins. Dad also gave me a love of Leonard Cohen.
Like I said earlier, it’s more of an addiction than anything. I just have a need to do it. The songs are generally inspired by me singing along to an acoustic guitar. That tends to be the way they come about.
I don’t have an particular message. I hope people enjoy the songs and feel good hearing them. I’d like the songs to have a humanity and a sense of empathy and understanding about them, but I am not sending any messages.
I haven’t done it for a while but it’s the best feeling. We’re lucky in our art that we can have this instant gratification as we create the noise we get the rewards at the same time. Its adrenaline and so much more...on a good night.
So much could be improved in terms of revenue models. In many ways artists have been empowered , but it’s nothing without an income.
I’ve been impressed so far. It’s a great idea.
I tend not to get frustrated about much anymore. I just try to enjoy it.
I try but our local scene in Killarney, Ireland is dominated by cover acts to entertain tourists. We don’t have much of an original scene. There are plenty of venues and opportunities for musicians...if you play covers, or traditional Irish music. Having said that there are some cool acts that play covers but have a bit of fun with it, different interpretations. Some of those gigs are cool. There was one regular thing in particular where people just showed up and played together. There would be 10 people playing and about 2 were in the actual band. All sorts of instruments. Just a rotating cast and they never knew who was going to turn up each night. There was a vibrancy and a cool chaos about it.
I’ve never been interested in promotion so I don’t know. Just work hard and write what you love, i suppose
I don’t know who you’ve never heard of.
