Terry Fisher

Story

I am a singer, guitarist, song writer. I've been writing since the early to mid 70's. I've always preferred writing to learning other artist's songs. I appreciate and listen to many genres of music. Rock, blues and jazz being the primary three. I write in rock & blues general vibes with some folk influences. I enjoy collaberating with others and letting my lyrical vibes flow and mingle with musical composition ideas. Lots of my songs were derived from an idea that wakes me up and I can't get it out of my head. I have music playing in my head constantly. Often times, I am hearing bits and pieces of songs while I'm in a conversations with people. The music never stops. It's what keeps me going over all else.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music is like my life blood. It is how I interpret emotions and I relate most life experiences to a mood in music. Music is my comfort and my interpreter for my soul.

What is your music dream?

Telling my story through my music & lyrics is my dream.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

I would eliminate greed.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

Wow! Very hard since there are so many... Puff the Magic Dragon, Tobacco Road (Rodger Miller), Bring Back that Loving Feeling (Righteous Bros.) , Blueberry Hill (Fats!) , The Last Train to Clarkesville (Monkeys), Hey Joe, (Hendrix) I feel Good (James Brown) Shot Gun, Magic Carpet Ride, Hey Jude, My Generation, 25 or 6 to 4, I could go on & on...

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Rolling Stones, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Chicago, Jeff Beck, Led Zeppelin, Yes, ELP, J. Geils, Marshall Tucker Band, Allman Brothers, Queen, Weather Report, Leon Russell, Grand Funk Railroad, Jethro Tull, Elton John, BB King, Miles Davis, Bowie, ZZ Top, Steppenwolf, Santana, Rare Earth, Sly and the Family Stone, Bob Seger, Billy Joel, Bruce Springfield, Pink Floyd, James Taylor, Al DiMiola, John McLaughlin, Frank Zappa... Just too many to list...

What inspires you to make music?

My mood inspires me I guess as a form of release. I can get a riff in my head or a particular sound will hit me and off we go into that vibe. Hard to really describe, but I will sometimes find an out of the ordinary chord and that chord will start the wheels turning. Other times, I will start describing a thought or situation verbally and create a rythm within the poetry that inspires the music to enhance the words.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

Love and understanding, or mere expression of my soul.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

Exposed at first, sometimes even petrofied but that usually subsides after a few songs. Once I've opened up I feel great. Thats why I prefer to do my own material. It's much more fun to showcase new material than try to meet expectations on someone else's songs.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

Another difficult one to answer. People open up and interact differently. I don't think that changes. Some folks write to promote values, some write to hide those same views. Most of us want to be accepted and I think social media has given a "world of acceptance" on steroids to artists. This can be both good and overwhelming. I think that sites like Drooble are improving musician's ability to live in their own reality.

What do you think of Drooble?

Drooble feels comfortable to me. I mean in a very short time I feel like I have found an avenue where I can express myself and share my own thoughts with less explanation and work at self expression.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Keeping focused on one project or line of thought enough to truly accomplish goals instead of half way doing a lot of different things. There's too much destraction out there. Matching audiences to musical style is another frustration.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

Yes. I attend local music shows and gigs fairly frequently and I go to jam sessions at the local music stores where I meet people from the general area and brush up on my vocal and instrument chops.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

I think getting out and playing, no matter the size and genre is important. I also think that today's musician has to be computer literate and internet savy in order to keep up with the different forms of media and what it takes to share and be a part of the technology. The more you can do for yourself in that regard, the more successful you'll be in the end.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

I'll try to contribute some more folks on my next update.. but some folks I've known for years would include Steve "Fish" Ahlquist in the Atlanta Area. He has done ALL the Harmonica tracks on my original material to date. Richard Arland Jones (also Atlanta area), a great song writer and he did all the sound engineering for my best recorded songs. Barry Richman in Atlanta, AWSOME Guitar player , One of the best I've ever known. Smokestack Band in Jacksonville, FL area does everyone justice with their talented crew. , Pepper Kinsey and the Pepper Shakers from Saint Marys, Georgia has another great sound with Pepper singing lead from behind the drum kit. You won't be dissapointed with any of those folks.
