Story

I am not from a musical background at all although i do have memories of my Gran dad playing the accordian. One day in an art class at secondary school my art teacher Mr Barnard played Pink Floyds Echoes on the record player and it just blew me away, like going on a musical journey, I was very bored of the music of the time and started getting into prog bands in my teens at a time when it was very unfashionable, it was some years years later that i bought a guitar, I took lessons with Alan Pinches at the age of 24, I practised hard, I was a porter in a psychiatric hospital at the time and as the job was mostly hanging around i spent my time practising. I was in an originals band which did not end on very good terms, my tutor encouraged me to join covers bands and start making a living from music, i took his advice and joined an Elvis tribute band, then a light jazz band, then did some summer seasons on holiday camps, then played in a travelling circus orchestra in Denmark for three seasons, then I was offered a place in the band on a cruise ship, which payed for me to travel the world. I have done just about every type of gig imaginable, in many countries around the world in many styles. Back in the UK now and returned to my main passion which is being creative and writing my own songs. I hope you like them, my dream would be to put a band together, collaborate and go out and try to get a following to play the bars and venues, for this I would even be willing to relocate to another country. Anyway, please add me on here, peace love and happiness to you all. Mutual support and respect is the way forward, not being deluded enough to think what you do is better than what everyone else does, we're all trying to get heard, let's all help each other.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

It makes me happy, it keeps me focused, it gives me hope, I love performing to an audience and seeing them enjoying themselves and being happy. Music is everything to me.

What is your music dream?

To pack out the half moon in Putney playing my own songs.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

Education for everyone, ignorance has led the world into a very dark place.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

the scaffold - Lily the pink

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Tangerine dream, Pink floyd, mozart, Bob Dylan, Django Rheindhardt, Edith Piaf, Steve Hackett, Joni Mitchell, Beethoven, Kate Bush, Ivor Cutlar, Kenny Burrell, ELO, the stranglers.

What inspires you to make music?

I have no idea, I just have to.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

I hope you like my music.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

Joyous

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

The business is overcrowded, corporatised, rivalrous, inflexible, musicians should help each other, not hinder each other, the music business promotes a lot of sexist exploitative dross, individuality is not encouraged. Perhaps musicians could get together and form their own record labels and promote themselves and others.

What do you think of Drooble?

I love it, it is a very positive site.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Being told I have to fit in and conform to one thing in order to "get on", I am 54, no one is going to look at me, i just want to play what i think is good, I am not interested in X factor.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

I don't really, i should do more, but it is hard enough to support yourself most of the time, I go to lots of open mics and perform, I am a professional musician and play for a living as well as my own music.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Be positive, learn how to advertise yourself, most muso's including me are terrible at this.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

Joanna Brouk, Loma, Allan Holdsworth, Robert Rich.
