Sound System Seven

Story

We're not saying we're a Ska band. We're not saying we're a Reggae band. But just because we're not saying it doesn't mean we're not skanking it. We play our own brand of Jamaican-inspired Rock & Soul music. Hittin' onna twos and fours, it's ours and it's yours! We're not here to impress you with how many musical pioneers we've called bandmates, but we could. We're not going to claim fame by dropping the names of superstars with whom we've shared a stage, but we could. We aren't at the forefront of any political movement, nor would we want to be. What we do, we do for fun. The rest is up to you. If you want a sermon, go to church. If you want a pep rally, go to high school. If you want to have fun, come to a Sound System Seven show. Buy our CD or download/stream our music! You listen, you dance and we play. Lather, rinse, repeat. That's all there is to it. If you party with us, we promise only those without a pulse will keep still.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music is fun. If it's not fun, don't do it!

What is your music dream?

We want to be the local band all the regional and national bands want to open their shows.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

Get people to realize that hate is misdirected emotional energy they could better spend loving someone than hating another.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

All of them!

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

The Specials, Jimmy Cliff, Elvis Costello, Sly & The Family Stone, The Police, Wailers, The Clash, Tower of Power, Pressure Boys, Sex Police...

What inspires you to make music?

Making music is an altered mental state. It's a form of Nirvana, trancelike, like drugs, but better.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

Have some fun. Later you'll wish you'd had more.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

Playing in front of an audience is the most fun we're likely to have with our pants on.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

Everybody and his brother is a musician, and they're both in six bands, each. There are more entertainment options available now than there ever were before. If you choose us to entertain you, we'll work hard to keep you from regretting that choice.

What do you think of Drooble?

It's Drooblicious.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Battle of the Bands! Music is competitive enough without making an event out of that competition.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

We book other local acts to play with us almost every show because working together is a better way to grow your audience than is working alone.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

There's no such thing as a larger audience. Every modern audience is a micro-audience. And there are more micro-audiences than ever before. You have to connect with all the micro-audiences you can find, so persistence is the key.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

The band playing tonight at your local pub needs your support. Go listen and dance. Buy them a beer each. Buy their music and their merchandise. Then YOU tell someone about THEM!
