I think most musicians nowadays don't make music on a long term bases. they make songs to satisfy audiences for that specific period which is why we play songs for two months and we forget about them. ask yourself why we still playing songs produced way back in the 1960s. simple, the songs were more like soul food, the music never has an expiry date. Maybe its about time we start making music that is capable of lasting for decades regardless of the genre.
