Son Nguyen

Greetings!

Hello to any and all! I'm Son, and I recently got into the idea of publicizing my music when I decided to try opening a youtube channel. Of course I'm still starting on all that, and life goes on so this is not something I can put as my top prioritize right now, but it's certainly a priority. In opening up a channel, I also wanted to know if there were communities online for people who love music and want to collaborate or just get out there in the open, like me! When searching for communities, Drooble popped up and I like it a lot so far. I have a bad habit of just putting several songs I'm into on repeat, so this website has helped me in listening to other peoples' music. Plus, everyone here seems to be really chill and supportive! I have so much music and getting to know you all to catch up with on this website! For now, my youtube channel is mostly videos I posted for my friends, but! They are public and full of piano, so please give it a listen! They're all meant for my channel in the end, but Son Song in particular you might like? Who knows. If none of this interests you (piano, and me I guess), then thank you for taking the time to read my description! I hope you have a good day, and send me your music if you're also trying to reach out! Or just say hi, I'm trying to be more open to the public in general.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music to me is love and energy. I believe there is music in both sound and silence! Music to me is a relationship, and depending on how you view that relationship will determine what music is to you. Like relationships in my life, I believe in true love, trust, and friendship. So to me, music is something that I love, trust, and befriended. I won't reject a single 'bad' note, because every note is just a part of many sounds that would sound beautiful if you play that note with love. Music gives me a lot of freedom to be who I am, and I hope that I can give music appreciation at the bare minimum as thanks. If music were a person, we'd be married lol.

What is your music dream?

My music dream is to have many piano, vocal, and eventually other instrumental songs that piece together different aspects of my life. I can depict a lot of what's happened in my life through writing, through story-telling, and through simply talking with friends about how my day went.. I'd love to do the same with music. So far, I have two songs, one that I wrote when I was busy falling in love. It's funny, with that song, I wrote it and sent it to my crush. Basically it didn't go well hahaha, and so I added onto it and it changed from a love song into a heartache song. My second song is about my health issues, both physical and mental, and how I combated what others told me, and how I combated what I myself told me. It's kind of the story of how I went from not trusting my intuition to.. trusting my intuition. It's definitely a song about letting out pain and knowing that, if you can just connect with the universe a bit more and open up a bit more, then suddenly you'll be taking out the "swords" in your heart, one sword at a time. It feels amazing. So my music dream is in progress! I believe if I continue loving where I'm at musically right now, I have already achieved my dreams. But I want to achieve them more lol

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

Energy. I'd get rid of dark energy. But I don't believe the world would be amazing if "I" did that. That's just a dream of mine, and a goal. I wish to guide the world towards a more positive shift of energy. Doing so should globally shift how we treat humans, other animals, and this planet. I believe humans can become far more empathetic and compassionate with more positive energy. I honestly think spirituality would allow many people to stop being so terrible lol, and perhaps allow them to realize they've been letting their shadow selves live their lives this whole time... but I don't wish to push my beliefs onto another, so let's just stick with the positive energy change instead. I believe spirituality is just like music, or many other things that aren't yourself; it's yet again a relationship. It's a matter of how you view that relationship that determines what spirituality is to you. So me changing the world where "everyone is spiritual" wouldn't really do much. Because a lot of people who don't believe in spirituality would therefore be the same. They wouldn't believe in it, because that's their relationship with spirituality. So yeah, energy!

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

I don't know why, but the Itsy Bitsy Spider. Soaking up the Sun comes up as well. Complicated by Avril Lavine too haha The music I listen to now is more enjoyable in my opinion.

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

I like Dodie, Steven Universe music, Keiynan Lonsdale's "Kiss the Boy", Willow, Nicotine's Famous Honey, and Daniel Caesar are most of the artists/songs I've been listening to recently.

What inspires you to make music?

A lot of things inspire me to make music, but I could summarize it with life and death being my inspirations. Every moment I'm able to breath, I'm inspired to make music. Every sound I hear, music is always in mind. Since childhood, I'd hear music through numbers, taps on the table, or through my breathing. Music is everywhere, so I'm always inspired.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

I want to send positive vibes. The message I want to send is: "Everybody deserves love. Everybody deserves a happy ending on this planet. It's all up to you and what you take from your experiences." I hope to send this message by making enough music about my life that will sort of be a "My Life" album. After that, I hope to see what other messages I make with songs that have actual choruses and whatnot. As of now, I just find beats online, so I'm really just focusing on getting my story out there before working on a "main message." I think I'll have many messages haha, but mostly I want love to resonate with all of my songs! So my main message will likely always be about love.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

I've never performed my songs before hahaha, but when I did speeches throughout school, they were always nerve-wrecking. But I liked it!

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

Luckily I see that "stardom" is far less important to musicians nowadays. I'd say that's the case in the past as well, but now you don't need a record label, or somebody basically forcing what you make and say, to get music out there. Thanks to the internet, anyone can put up their music and get it out there with enough effort. What could be improved is the self-esteem of everybody, as well as people's view on what "good music" is. I have many friends who will say "this is good," or "this is bad," and they will degrade their own music. I believe everybody on this planet is musical, and it's just a matter of loving your own stuff regardless of if it fits the "norm of good sounding music". I believe that's something that could always be improved. Basically, people's overall outlook on music could be improved, but again I don't mean to push my beliefs onto another. So this is just an opinion.

What do you think of Drooble?

I really enjoy Drooble! This is the first music community I've been a part of online, so I'm excited and hope it grows! I appreciate the time taken to create this site and experience.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Sometimes, you really need money to make the music you want to make. It frustrated me growing up that all I had was a crappy electric keyboard that sounded like deadwood. It was about one year ago that my best friend gave me his piano, which is electronic but actually has weighted keys and a petal. The difference is so obvious, I cried tears of joy for quite awhile. So similarly to how I "only had an electric keyboard" that kids could carry around, it frustrates me as a musician that there are people who dream of having even just that. I was fortunate to have a drone-sounding keyboard that at least let me express my musical wishes. So it frustrates me similarly to how life frustrates me- you start off with what you don't want, and you build your life into what you do want! Starting off not free, and wanting to be free. Starting off poor, and wanting to be not poor. Starting off unhappy, etc... So it just frustrates me that a musical life path can still be just as painful as any life path. All paths of life have hardships, and that frustrates me. But I understand those hardships is what makes it worth it though! So I'm really just complaining, honestly.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

Sure! My friends like to freestyle or write raps, and I support them. I purchase music when I can, and I send positive energy and vibes to anyone around so long as that person doesn't drain my energy. As a fan, I have small influence now but wish to give back so much more in the future.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

I'm not sure since my music isn't heard by a larger audience haha, but I'd say an important quality is loving your own music regardless of what others have to say about it. It's amazing when people do like your music! It's not as great when they don't, but most importantly is how YOU feel about your music. So I'd say holding onto the love and passion is key.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

I'm not sure what artists you've never heard of.
