Dom Reynolds

Dom Reynolds

Dom Reynolds is a musician, audio engineer and teacher. He is currently working on his second solo album, which will take the form of single releases later forming a collection. It is the intention of the artist that each song will take the listener to a different place, geographical or imaginary, meditatively solitary or social in a lively, real way we have almost forgotten. Dom is also collaborating with Jozef B, working on a new album and covers of songs in a rootsy, jazz/funk style. Annette Zakaria Wincott occasionally joins the duo on vocals and percussion. Dom has been busy producing rock band Discovery's second album. He is doing all the instrumental parts and on the album and co-arranging the songs. The first singles off the album, Stay Strong and Forgive Me have been released. The band's rehearsals are soon recommencing with a new line up - watch this space. In addition, Dom has been mixing drums on Davey Anscombe's single, Ghost Town, and recording and remixing Million Pebble Beach's single, Broken Ships. Dom also produced and contributed to Million Pebble Beach's debut album from 2020, The Adjacent Impossible. For further background on Dom Reynolds' musical career go here: https://www.domreynolds.com/about-7

What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music is the rhythm of life, and a window to the soul

What is your music dream?

Putting down on tape exactly what is in my mind.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

Too many people work long hours doing horrendous jobs for too little pay. Everyone should have a variety of pursuits to engage their mind and spirit, without having to worry about making ends meet.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

I remember Cars by Gary Numan. I thought it was wierd in a cool way, and very modern.

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

At the moment I am really into David Bowie, Duke Ellington, Smashing Pumpkins and RL Burnside.

What inspires you to make music?

It's in my head - like a madness, a fever. A very beautiful and compelling feeling.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

Make the most of life - it's too short.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

Very calm and extroverted - thriving on the creation of a vibe.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

The music industry is very harsh - musicians more than anyone are subjected to brutal criticism and derision. There is no need for this, and it causes hurt and mental health problems. There needs to be more consideration of musicians' feelings. The music industry needs to be warmer and more positive.

What do you think of Drooble?

Drooble is a unique social media site for musicians to share their music and chat with their peers, comparing notes and giving each other much needed encouragement.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

I don't like how there are so few music venues to play live in. It seems to be getting worse and worse. Too many musicians - not enough venues. So getting paid gigs can be hard. It's tough on the musician.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

I go to gigs and encourage my musical peers.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Practice and learn to play your instrument well. Quality shines out.
