Shamblesxo

Story

Shamel Anderson (born on June 20, 1999), professionally known as Shamblesxo (pronounced "shambles Eks-Oh"), is an American rapper. In 2020, he founded SOXO Records, launching the media outlet SOXO Radio three years later. His stage name is a representation of being in a state of disarray after several negative experiences in his personal life.Known for his social media presence, SOXO Radio became an official broadcast on iHeartRadio, and an official curator on MusoSoup. In February 2024, SOXO Radio also began releasing their official magazine.  Shamblesxo was born in Queens, New York.’ In his teens, he formed a rap group called Or!gin with some of his friends from school, influenced by the sound of rappers of the time. His involvement in hip-hop music began with ghostwriting for fellow rappers.’ During this period, he wrote multiple songs which he intended to release, but without access to proper resources he went on to trust local artists he met via a former employer.’ Upon arriving at a recording studio with the aforementioned party, his written raps were stolen.’ In 2016, he went on to unofficially release his first song “Insight” on Soundcloud under his government name.’ On March 23, 2023, he released his debut single "VIRAL", which was finalized after he decided to conclude the negative path his life was on. Inspired by the video game “Deadrising” and The Genesis account (2:4–3:24), the project received a positive response on SoundCloud.  Soon after, Shamblesxo began to focus on releasing more music, expanding both the record label and the SOXO Radio platform. Following the success of "VIRAL", Shamblesxo released “Misery Loves Company” and his extended play (EP) The Pupil (2024), which spawned three follow-up singles: “Shamblesxo (Instrumental)”, "Are You Willing To Become Anything You Desire?", and "OXYGOTMEHELLBENT" (mixed by FNO Guwop).

What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music is an outlet and the best way to communicate personal growth. It moves a listener by connecting on the points of hardships. A goal of mine is to craft the perfect pieces to be able to reach those who have felt similar pain. It gives me purpose.

What is your music dream?

To have an established base of followers that seek my music out, rather than me have to do the whole marketing & strategic approach. But in time that will come. For now, that's required, but music will open doors to different forms of entertainment.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

Us, as a form of life. We're too far gone, a system rest is necessary. Factory Settings with no further updates to have anything close to peace.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

Kid Cudi- Unfuckwittable. That song has so much power in the delivery and energy that you can't help but be moved. Unfortunately, any song that isn't mainstream gets canned and trashed. For personal favorites, that's always been my number one.

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Kid Cudi, and Mario Judah.

What inspires you to make music?

I have to tell my stories, to relate to people that need support and a champion.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

I want people to know that no matter what you can't stop trying. If you got a lot of abuse, or hate at any point in your life, you can help someone else. We all have stories and pain, and the opportunity to influence others positively. Even being able to release a few respectable bodies of work is enough to prove your point and connect with a wide audience. The stories I share may be about, drugs, sex, and rage, but that was only in response to the surroundings I faced as a teen in school, or as an adult with the outside world. I don't want to promote those activities but if I were to share anything but my truth, I'd be inauthentic. Authenticity, and growth is what I want to show. Our situations do not define us, we don't have to be a statistic.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

Everyday I'm performing, people approach me with bad intentions trying to get under my skin. Since I was a child, I know their game and it's unfortunate when it's close to home. I either act stupid, or just keep a cool head. So how do I feel like when I perform in front of an audience, I feel like myself. I don't switch into a happy vibe because I remember that even if it's an enjoyable moment it's temporary. I'd rather just keep on going instead of being in the moment because I have to put my best foot forward. Every person is playing a role whether they know it or not.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

I'd say avoid wearing the mask, admit financial struggles, confess insecurities, because who is your target audience? I won't say anything I haven't experienced, if we were to discuss the cold hard facts... the community is selfish, and toxic. I don't align myself with creeds because your own people will backstab you, so why would I make any generalizations. Artists are flawed myself included, because I'm a misanthrope that promotes unity.

What do you think of Drooble?

Very friendly and inviting U.I, I'm stoked to see the other musicians and I'll probably network with them this year.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Some other creatives.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

I support the music scene with my platform SOXO Radio. We have projects and services geared specifically for local artists. I use my platform to also promote their merch, music, and other events also.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Team, Personality, Message, Money.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

Yxng Kidd, Mia Automata, DrippNick, Mikki Brayboy, Stevie Flowers, Luqman, Vengeance & Shamblesxo.
