Invisible Savants

Story

I was fortunate to be born in Sheffield in 1960, which meant after I had taken piano lessons for a few years; I would end up being 18 when The Human League, cabaret Voltaire and the Comsat Angels + other great Sheffield bands were formed. My 1st band was Station 4 who played a few times ( see photo of the Leadmill ). In 1981 a friend and I decided that rather than play gigs for little money we would write songs and demo them to send to labels. Our first song was called Meltdown which was written on a casio piano/string machine,SH101 and cheap drum machine. We demoed this track with one other at Cargo Studios in Rochdale and sent it off to our top 10 list of labels. Phonogram phoned us within a week and gave us a demo deal to write two "A"sides . we had 6 weeks to come up with 2 singles ! one track Suzanne Smiles was deemed good enough but they wouldn't sign us on the strength of one song.Other labels liked the second song Here Come The dolls better, sadly no label liked both of the songs, we carried on for about 18 months then stopped. A further band Two Gun which was a funk rock band in 1985-87 was OK. I didnt write for over 20 years but started again in 2010 under the name Borstal Tears you can google and see some of my remixes and original songs. I try to write in different genres to simply learn more about production . hope you like my labours Peace. Russell aka Borstal Tears / The Invisible Savants.
