Robyn Ewing-wells

Story

I have been singing on stage professionally since I was 5 yrs. old. I didn't start playing the guitar until I was in my 20's I learned a few chords....then got busy with life and put it away until I was 32 yrs. old and picked up the guitar again so I could accompany myself and write (which is really my passion) I am a singer/ songwriter first and foremost ...don't really consider myself a great musician...I "play at" several instruments. I have toured and traveled around the East Coast of the US and made a good living at it. I have recorded several CD's and received a decent amount of radio play on several stations...I have done some T.V. spots as well. I never had the desire to be "A big star" I just like to be able to do my own thing and be creative. I still play today mostly fairs, festivals, private parties, etc.... I am married to my lead guitarist/ music partner. I have two children a daughter who is also a singer/ bass guitar player, and I have a musical son as well, he plays bass, drums, guitar, ...well, just about any instrument he picks up and he plays them well. I was blessed to grow up in a musical family....My sisters and their kids all sing/ play instruments as well. I was born in WV (USA). So I am a Hillbilly at heart.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music has been a part of my life since I was very small...I don't remember not singing or listening to music. Writing songs provides me with a release when I'm stressed or a way to celebrate a happy time in my life etc... I can express my emotions and thoughts. I have never had any formal training...it's just always been in me.

What is your music dream?

Just to write songs and enjoy what I'm doing...to be creative and it's nice if people like what I do.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

Oh ...just too many good songs to name one.

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Bob Seger, The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Los Lonely Boys, CCR, Billy Joel, Dwight Yokum, Plain White T's, Slaid Cleaves, Steel Drivers, America, Paul Simon,

What inspires you to make music?

Everything

What is the message you want to send with your music?

I just hope that people can identify with my lyrics... maybe it is something they have felt or experienced and they can relate.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

I love it... I love to watch their expressions and if they cry, laugh, smile, from hearing a song I've written then I've accomplished what I've set out to do.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

There are alot of good musicians out there....but, there are alot that are not-so-good (IMO) I find a real "lacking" in the lyrics of some music...especially in the newer country music... I really am sick of the beer raising, dirt road, cut off shorts, pickup truck, party songs. I prefer outlaw country and folk... more in depth artists. I also like alot of rock/ pop artists.... but, do not like the violent cop hating songs. I feel like today all the artists sound alike...I think it's from those Music contest shows...they pick the same type of people everytime. I really like artists who are unique and not mainstream.

What do you think of Drooble?

It's awesome!

What frustrates you most as a musician?

People not wanting to pay you what you're worth.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

Sure....I go listen to some local bands at times.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Well...it seems like they have to be commercial mainstream...ugh! Boring to me.
