Writing music off and on since the 80s. Music writing is my favorite hobby by far, and I can't imagine a world without music in it.
It is everything. A great hook on the way to work can literally change my whole day, or clean up at the end of a bad day and set things straight. It is normal for me to have to find my airpods in the sheets of the bed each morning because I fell asleep with them in. I particularly love the fact that there are new bands releasing songs this month that could have released 15 years ago and fit right in - and they are crushing it. A great song is just timeless.
To be surrounded by it all of the time. I can write music for others, publish it, perform songs, critique them, just go to a club and listen. It is my weekend hobby every summer and I finally decided that there were to many songs in my head that had to come out. I have written 5 in the last month.
Get people to appreciate their differences and be who they are. Being PC i think is a double edged sword. I want to see people for who they really are, show them who I am and have faith that we can all live with that. I would rather live in a truly diverse world than one trying to force conformity.
Easy. Candy-O by The Cars. Well, maybe Another One Bites the Dust - Queen... or there is Call Me - Blondie... Don't stand so Close to Me - Police, oh but wait: Destination Unknown - Missing Persons, but how can I forget Love My Way - Psychadelic Furs....... (this could go on all night)
Right now Drab Majesty and the new Diamonds album by The Birthday Massacre are at the top of my list. Jamiroquai deserves a mention just due to sheer volume of wonderful songs, and if I am feeling cranky a little Rammstien helps. But some days I just need to get the Led out.
Getting older - time is really flying. I should have done this when I was 18. It was always my dream, and the only thing I really loved. Back then I was too concerned about what people would think and it was stressful. Now I just don't care. This is my journey.
Enjoy it! Get out on the floor and dance when you are too scared to. Sing in the car. Nobody cares. Music is the cheapest form of pure joy you will ever find. Dive right in.
Have not done that in a while. I am sure nervous, but I know it is exhilarating also. I am so much less concerned with the performance aspect as I am with the writing aspect that I would be happy as a clam with front row seats to see an established band performing one of my songs I wrote.
The margins are getting tighter. It's hard, but at the same time I think it brings out the musicians in it for the love of music. I do wish that Country, Rock, Pop, R&B, HipHop all were on more equal footing though. Every genre has something to like, and if all you can hear is HipHop or dubstep, then you are missing out.
It is AWESOME! I have been messing around with other sites, and going freelance and dealing with TuneCore and others for 3 months. I LOVE this consolidated venue and collaboration concept (if it works out). This is so incredible.
Bouncing from one hook to another. I need to be multi-threaded so I can get 4 songs out at a time. It is either feast or famine when writing. When one idea hits, it usually spawns about 5 tangents that are distracting, and due to time constraints, I just KNOW a great song got lost in order to complete the first.
I have at least one concert ticket in Dallas every weekend. If I have to go alone, I go alone. I also love new bands and smaller venues so I end up with a ton of obscure merch (I have a closet full of shirts nobody has ever heard of)
Style. Style. Style. Their own. They have to lead. Sometimes the result can be a disaster - it is risky, but I do believe that this is what makes a band great.
