In 2006, Robert James began playing guitar with some friends and found a love of music that laid beyond. After multiple failed attempts to get bands off the ground and more than ten years of relative obscurity, Robert James conceived the idea to take the power back into his own hands. Thus, the album "From a Certain Point of View" was born in December 2016. Not long after, Robert James took up the moniker of Safecamp. He chooses to represent multiple view points on how music can be played as well as heard. Safecamp's music evokes dormant, dark emotions to blossom to the surface in a feeling of relevance. The music brings intense highs and lows as the walls of sound seek to probe your mind for the things you feel most vulnerable and show you there is someone else who understands. August 7th, 2018, Safecamp will be releasing their debut album to the world. As of May 28th, 2019, I have released my follow up EP on Soundcloud for free. It is a 7 song EP called "Better Left Behind".
Music is a way of life to me. I hear it in my head. I feel it in my bones. Music gives me a sense of self and an escape from life. It gives me a way to express myself.
My music dream is to be heard and understood. Anything more would be a blessing.
I would start by helping to change how people perceive others. I want to help those who feel misunderstood be able to find someone who relates to them.
Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer was the first song I remember falling in love with.
Currently I love anything Circa Survive, Anthony Green, Metric, Alice in Chains, and the Parlor Mob have done.
I am inspired by the music in my head and the feelings they bring to me.
That music can be for anyone.
I feel like it's where I belong.
The musicians' reality is that you have to be able to carry on on your own. There is no one who will help you until you help yourself. Find musicians you like and play with them as much as possible. Enjoy every moment because it can end in the blink of an eye.
Drooble seems cool so far.
Not being able to do as much as I want to. I work alone because I've had a hard time meeting committed musicians. I've had a hard time keeping those I do like around.
I used to. I attended Bronx Underground shows every month for years. These days I just don't know if I belong. I offer only positivity though to those who do support the local scene. It needs to continue.
Passion and desire. All music should be heard, whether you like it or not is different.
