Rob Jones

Musician and producer

Been around the block a bit, but have loads of experience that comes with that. Currently work as a freelance artist and producer and always on the lookout for collaborations and generally helping out if people need me :) Have a good studio setup here and time available to work with others. I've plenty of experience working and recording bands, and also helping bring peoples ideas to life by offering my knowhow...and studio time if I'm not too busy.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

It's the only consistent, ever present thing in my life. Through thick and thin, it's been by my side. It's the best way I have found to express myself. Without it, I wouldn't have travelled so far.

What is your music dream?

To carry on till I drop. No delusions of grandeur at my stage in life. But I enjoy the people I meet along the way.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

Get rid of the sickening financial rewards of leadership. Power corrupts all. Only then can we actually set long term plans in place for the whole world and not concentrate on the short term gains they seek. Then, and only then could we plan for a future for our children who will inherit what we leave them. That ain't looking good. Shame on us all.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

Voodoo Child - Hendrix

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Radiohead. Beatles, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Ed Sheeran, Joe Bonamassa

What inspires you to make music?

Life - the pain and the pleasure.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

Carry on talking through music. The more we talk, the more the language of music will evolve.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

Nervous. Privileged. Godlike. Vulnerable. I feel my soul is exposed.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

I love streaming platforms, but I hate streaming platforms as well. A blessing and a curse. Although everyone can have a voice, it's still only the labels and mega studios who control where the money goes. In some ways music is now spread really thinly and we are given the impression we are more in control. That is just simple deceit.

What do you think of Drooble?

Still finding my way. Only heard of it yesterday so all this waffle from me is probably pointless. But heck, I have time to kill today.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Seeking others of a similar mindset. It's soooo hard to find other musicians in the barrens of North East Scotland!

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

No scene to support here. But I always did in other places I lived.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Patience, determination and a firm grip on reality. The end.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

Liz Frazer. In particular her voice in "Song To A Siren"
