Pete Hale

Singer songwriter

Played in various bands in the past, played as a duo and now I play solo gigs, only local places just to keep my hand in. Main interest is writing and composing songs. DAW is a Boss multi track, nothing special but it’s ok for demos. I’ve had songs recorded by an engineer in the past and I will eventually put them on this site.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

I find music can be a stimulant or a calming of the soul. For instance, if I’m playing music, rehearsing a lot of songs, I get lost in that music I’m making and it doesn’t matter what worries I have in the World, the worries are pushed aside while I’m in that frame. Stimulating music could be on the dance floor when a song with a good beat comes on and you feel the urge to dance. Then a calm relaxing song would possibly make want to have a smooch with your partner. Making your own music, writing the words and creating the music and sound, I’m on a mission and continuity is of the utmost importance;you feel that if it’s not collected fast enough you lose that first feel you had when generating the song, sometimes you lose that original feel especially if your in bed and a tune and words are going through your head, by the time you get up and grab the portable recorder, get the guitar and start putting the idea down, you sometimes cannot get back what you heard inside your mind. Frustrating. Music to me is a medicine! it helps me relax and possibly accept the World for what it is(rat race) and just get on with life, and when people are arseholes you turn to your music and maybe write another song. Excuse the language, their is no better way to explain somebody’s behaviour sometimes. Thank goodness there’s music.

What is your music dream?

I worked for CBS when I was in my young twenties. My nephew and I were co writing the songs between us and we had to write 7 songs a week. They made a promise to promote our music, unfortunately my nephew who was 18 at this time was offered our songs to be recorded on the understanding that he had to sleep or have sex with the producer. That was never gonna happen, and we stopped writing for them and within a year my nephew went to live in Australia with the family out there and made it in the music world. I joined bands doing cover numbers, and here I am again writing songs. I do realise of course that the music business is a dirty one, just as well I enjoy my music without the fame, although I would like to be recognised as a songwriter.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

That’s a tough question and I don’t think I’m educated enough to answer this correctly. I’ve never been into politics. I’ve watched the MPs in the parliament fighting and squabbling about issues, and I think, if they can’t agree on making a decision then who am I to take a view; these people in charge are highly educated folk who dedicate their lives to running the country. However, as clever as MPs are I sometimes think that they haven’t much room in their brains for common sense. What I mean is, some things that are going on in the country can be sorted just by listening to the people and not doing what they think should be done. Bob Dylan has never had time for political overtures and as always seen things in black and white. Vietnam war, stop the fighting in his songs of past history, simple common sense words in his songs, love the man! If I could change the World I would create another government to work together with the clever government we already have, only this other government would be people with brilliant common sense with more women than men in this new government because I strongly believe that woman have a 6th sense, their intuitive way of thinking is on a different level to men, men are blinkered to what’s around them, and women seem to have that all round vision. It really irritates me because my wife knows what’s going to happen before it even happens! how do they do that?

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

somewhere over the rainbow.

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Mark knopler as a guitarist. Bob Dylan as a writer. Eagles as the best Country Rock Band. Too many female singers to name. I love most styles of music, not too keen on rappers but I do listen to Ed Sheering who I find very talented. Heavy music I think Guns and Roses are my top band. Pink Floyd are amazing at taking you on a mind journey. Country music, Don McLean, John Denver, and most country music out there.

What inspires you to make music?

I guess it’s writing songs about life within the lyrics. The music itself would come as a riff on the guitar and most times I would record that riff then I would find an ideal subject to put to that riff. I find songs come in different ways, I can just be sitting there with the guitar and playing a turn of chords and I just put words and Sing to the tune I’m making and if it sounds good I would immediately get in the studio ( part of my garage) and record it straight away and find the ideal way to make a song. Never the same way though, just happens.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

Be nice to one another. Peace.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

when I’m singing and playing I feel in my element, nice feeling of being appreciated for your skills, and of course being applauded is nice.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

I like musicians that enjoy their music without the expectations that they are going earn a fortune. They do it because they love making music. let’s be honest, the record producers have got more than enough talent in their collection and they are earning what they expect to turn over, so for a new comer it’s very hard.

What do you think of Drooble?

Amazing way for musicians to get together and discuss their music and all the problems that go with it. Drooble is an ideal life line for a lot musicians as it gives them a sense of maybe hope and gratification for their work. I realise that some musicians on here are perhaps below par, but it doesn’t matter because I don’t think people on here are going to be nasty to them and say that’s rubbish; constructive criticism in a kind way if at all, or say nothing and tick like, everyone is at their own level wherever they can blow a tin whistle or play guitar like Hendrix. I think Drooble is an amazing set up for singers and musicians, with all the arrangements that Drooble have made to expose your musical talent I think it’s brilliant. Well done Drooble.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Drummers ?Seriously, when I was in the band rehearsal was a nightmare because the drummer would be crashing about while you’re sorting songs out. The frustration of writing songs and not being able to contact top artist that the songs would be suitable for. If a certain artist ask me to write a song about a certain subject, I would put my heart into it. I only tend write songs if there’s a good reason or subject that comes up.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

I help run the local village hall doing various duties as a volunteer. I offer my singing and playing to the public whenever it’s needed but also help arrange other musicians such as solo singers or bands to play at the hall.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

something different and original, that would be the ideal thing but of course mostly everything has been done in the way of being different. I think if musicians can have a really good sound, sing well, harmonies, play their instruments well and look the part that they are portraying in their music. I guess stand out in the crowd as they say, this is us, or me.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

I don’t think I need to share them because there is so much talent on Drooble! just turn on the Drooble radio, and there they are. It would be nice if everyone with talent could have the spotlight and be exposed to the World, like a rotor system where they change the artist every 6 months or so and it’s a fair system. You can only dream. The record company’s have artist that are selling their products, so as long as the artist are doing that they aren’t interested in clogging up the system.
