The Digital Hippie

The Story.... So Far...!

Long Haired Hippie with a passion for ALL things MUSIC...!! After leaving school I worked as a Roadie & DJ. Slowly but surely learning my trade progressing to sound & lighting engineer. Late 80's through to mid-90's I was heavily involved in the local RAVE scene, designing, supplying and operating Hi-Tech lighting, Laser & sounds system. Anyone remember, Amnesia House (Sport Connexion) & of course the ECLIPSE. I had a wild time & engineered for people who have now gone on to become megastars, ie. Moby, Prodigy, Orbital & many others. At the turn of the millennium, after many years of partying too hard, I left it all behind and went back to college where I studied computer science. A few years later I was working as an IT Systems Administrator with my head stuck in a PC's all day. After 18 months as systems administrator i left the stresses of life in IT and went back to my first love Audio Visual equipment. Only this time no touring or gigging as such, i now worked in film & television and used my skills on UK TV programs like: - Top of the Pops, CD:UK, Doctor Who, Question of Sport, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Crimewatch & Deal or No Deal., as well as being involved with things like the Bafta's, the Brits, the Booker prize etc....!!! Plus being involved as part of the technical team on 2 Star Wars movies and some work on the 007 franchise...! An accident while working on a Live TV show brought all that to an end, leaving me with Leg, Knee, Neck, Shoulder and SEVERE BACK problems.!! So now it's all about me & my music and the local young, up & coming artists who I share my knowledge with & give studio time to.! Favourite quote:- 'If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.' NIKOLA TESLA.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music is & for as long as I can remember, MY LIFE..!

What is your music dream?

I am living it..!

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

In a world run by 'The Digital Hippie' learning a musical instrument would be compulsory & free.!

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

My childhood was full of music so choosing one song is nigh on impossible. There is however one musical moment that stays with me to this day. My granddad ran the local Jazz club and during rehearsals I was part of the furniture. At one of these rehearsals, (Acker Bilk and His Paramount Jazz Band), I was allowed to sit on the drummers knee and bash the hell out of his drum kit while Aker played his clarinet..

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

I have no favourite artist or band, style or genre. I just LOVE MUSIC!!!! In fact in believe there are only two types of music, Music you like & music you don't like and that in itself can be somewhat subjective as my likes & dislikes change depending on my mood...!

What inspires you to make music?

My inspiration for making music isn't really an inspiration but more of a need. There is always music going through my head and sometimes the only way to get some peace & quiet is to turn the noise in head into tunes, on favourite DAW, Cubase.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

I don't try to deliver messages in my music as such. My music is more of a reflection of whats going on in my head at the time of making that track.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

Walking out in front of an audience scares the living daylights out of me. I shake, feel sick and have cold sweats, that is until the first note or chord rings out and then a sort of serenity comes over me & the music takes over..!

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

The reality for musicians is the Internet. Sites like YouTube, Facebook, Soundcloud etc and streaming services like Apple music, Spotify, Deezer and the like make listening to music of any style so easy. So todays musicians need multimedia skills as well as musical talent and embrace the worldwide web. As to how that can be improved, well a platform like Drooble is a good start...!

What do you think of Drooble?

Drooble is AWESOME....! A social media site for musicians that is run by musicians and that has grown into a community of like minded, talented people. Where members share their experiences & knowledge as well as their music..! There is nothing else quite like it out there..!

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Trying to answer questions that I have no answer to.!
