Nicole Massie

Story

Though I am relatively new to playing, songwriting, and engineering/producing, I have been very into music my entire life, and have been singing for as long as I remember. I think now is the right time for me to start working toward reaching my full potential as a true musician!

What is music to you? What does it give you?

It's an obsession of sorts. I constantly have some song or made up melody in my head, which makes life more interesting when I'm bored at work, for example. Life is also much more beautiful when you can vividly imagine a song to match any situation you find yourself in.

What is your music dream?

To create music that I can be totally proud of in the end, knowing that I did the best I could.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

I probably would start with stopping people from destroying the worlds' environments and the animals that live in it.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

Silver Springs by Fleetwood Mac(The Dance concert version)

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Top five are easily, in no particular order: Pink Floyd, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, The Electric Light Orchestra, and The Alan Parsons Project.

What inspires you to make music?

Everyone around me. Loved ones give me a lot of creative energy, and hearing stories from people inspires me to create story ideas for lyrics.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

Corny, but I think a big thing for me would be to Express that life sucks sometimes, but it's all worth it during the beautiful moments. Also to appreciate the seemingly small things.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

Very nervous at first, then I get very energized by the crowd's energy!

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

I think it's great that professional quality recordings can now be achieved in your own house, without ever having to go to a studio. But I find some modern recording techniques/habits really annoying(examples: over compressing tracks, resorting to pitch correct rather than getting a good take). I wish people would go back to focusing on getting a well balanced sound rather than thinking louder=better.

What do you think of Drooble?

Not sure yet. Will have to see how it goes.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Writers'/creative block. I get bursts of creativity, then I'm stumped.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

I try to. Usually I go to festivals and other venues such as bars and clubs where local artists play.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

I definitely think becoming social media savvy is a good idea.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

There are a lot of great European artists. Soviet Union era rock from Russia has been a favorite of mine lately. Kino(Кіно) is a very famous band from that time. DDT(ДДТ) and Aquarium have some good stuff too.
