Micke Layerson

Layerson - Songwriter and song producer

I'm a songwriter and song producer from Sweden, hobbyist and self taught. Still learning the trade and during the past years I've evolved in both my productivity and quality of work. Currently I collaborate with a lyricist and I'm also active in a couple of other online songwriter forums. My strength is my ability to come up with melodies and music from inspirations such as lyrics or emotions. I also have the essential theoretical and other necessary skills required for producing a song digitally with adequate results. I’m a fast learner and a great improviser. I always try to make the most of the possibilities that exists in modern music production. I have a small home studio which is upgraded whenever I feel something is missing. Looking forward to discover/hear/share/discuss/comment/review songs, lyrics, music and ideas - both yours and mine. Sincerely, Micke

What is music to you? What does it give you?

It's therapeutic, captivating and expressive. It gives me a means to nurture my creative side. It's a retreat for my soul. I can't think of a situation where there couldn't be music.

What is your music dream?

Being fortunate enough to write many great songs.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

I would tilt the scale and let everyone have a life. There’s so much inequality and some just never get a chance.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

I didn’t really think about music back then. Thriller was perhaps the first music video I saw, it made a great impression. I listened to what my parents listened to, that was a lot of 50:s, 60:s songs but I also followed what my friends were liking, having no favs of my own.

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Various. I’m not a fan of any artist in particular, more of certain songs.

What inspires you to make music?

Life in general. Reading other people’s lyrics. A good sounding instrument. I believe that we’ve all been born with great ideas and talents but we have to find out what they are and channel them properly. I feel that I have yet to discover my greatest songs.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

Depends on the song. I don’t always write the lyrics.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

I have stage fright so that’s not an option. Scared to death?

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

The earnings from streaming is very low but I don’t really see how to increase it. The competition is gruesome and far too many streaming platforms for that to happen.

What do you think of Drooble?

So far I like it, think it’s a great place and friendly community.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Time. Not always having the necessary skills to get a song how I imagine it. And a few other things...

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

Where I live there aren’t that many opportunities to visit music events locally.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Sadly I’d say that it has not that much to do with music, more to do with image, promotion and abiding to the hit formulas set by the industry. It takes a lot to reach trough the digital noise barriers, you gotta have something unique.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

Stone Antica, Garmarna, MCC (Magna Carta Cartel).
