Matt Logan - Dallas

Matt Logan (Dallas, Use HQ Headphones)

Recently Matt has been working with Professor Brainius (children's Science performer, his brother) on songs for the stage. The earliest of these tracks have already been heard by hundreds of thousands of young ears during The Professor's innumerable live performances. "Kid's music is a blast. ... Some genres have an air of pretense about them. You can drop all pretense and just have fun (working on children's music)." Matt also works on music for commercial projects, where custom music is required. Most notable of these have been projects aired on national TV and radio. He has a talent for making virtually any instrument he picks up sound good, and thus professes a mastery of none. He feels fortunate to be able to work within most any musical genre. "You can’t pin these tracks down into a single category. ... I get to play and practice almost every style of music. … I feel lucky in that way." Lately his most keen interest has been as a student of guitar. "Having grown up in Texas, you have those 'blue notes' in your blood." The tracks featured on this site span decades and are mostly proofs, practice sessions, or those not otherwise encumbered. The tracks here are original ML compositions in various forms of completion, although the occasional cover song may show up. Some production notes and comments have been added to many tracks within the "lyrics/details" area of each. If you hear something you like, please send a note. What is music to you? What does it give you?

Creating music is a lot of fun. In my case at least half the time I am doing it purely for practice purposes; to learn a new software or hardware package. Getting better over the years has been really rewarding too; from a personal development perspective.

What is your music dream?

I want to finish more Professor Brainius songs.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

Somehow compel politicians to be fiscally responsible. Reign them in. Savings is made too difficult in the modern age because of government run amuck (inflation). Only those who study Econ. for years have a chance of growing their savings; meaning their investments outpace inflation. The alternatives are a savings account where you are losing 3% after inflation, or turning your money over to someone you don't really know. The average Joe doesn't stand a chance against the dual razors of taxation and inflation.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

NA

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Mozart et al, Clapton catalog, Level 42, Basia, Bill Palmer

What inspires you to make music?

The serendipity that can occur when crafting melodies and progressions.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

Playing quality synthesizers (tweaking knobs) and other instruments is about as much fun as a person can have.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

I get to stay in the lab.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

More playing by hand is all that is needed IMO. When things are played by hand, all is right with the world. ;)

What do you think of Drooble?

Nice.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Some really great songs are physically difficult to play.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

Arlington TX Music Hall

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Work in teams. You will more done faster. Wish I had known this earlier. ;)

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.
