Story

Hello, I am Mark Genesis. A fully dedicated 21 year old who spends all his time writing, recording and designing. I didn't realize music was my passion and destiny for life until I was 14 years old. I wrote my very first song at that age and at that moment, a spark lit in me and has only gotten brighter since. There has been no one thing that has completely grasped and consumed me for such a long period of time like music. Music has changed my life for the better and I have evolved into a new being because of it's undeniable impact in my life. Artists such as Janet Jackson, Prince, Michael Jackson, Queen and so many more legendary figures in music history have gripped me and took hold of my artistic evolution.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music is my all. It empowers me, makes me feel as if everything is okay. I could have the worries of the world down on my back but when I hear the riff of an electric guitar, the melody of a vocalist, the echoes of a drum or the bass of an 808, all my problems fade and it's just me and the music. It completely and totally encompasses me.

What is your music dream?

My dream is to use the gift of music and creativity to spread love and light. To heal humanity. To give faith and hope and chance. To lead by example and open doors. To leave this world and have plenty left over aside from monetary and materialistic objects and possessions. To be rich in passion and wealthy in peace.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

I'd start with being myself, truly and unconditionally. I surround myself with light, love and peace. In order to change this world for the better, you're going to need those things and many more ingredients besides the obvious.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

The most memorable song from my childhood would be Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean". Ever since I was around 7-8 years old, that song has stood out to me more than any other because of it's unique musicality, the emotion and intensity in Michael's vocals and delivery, the lyrical storytelling and the ability to use music as sound and feeling. I love that song for those reasons and for those reasons, it's a landmark for myself as inspiration.

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

My favorite artists would be Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Janet Jackson, Prince, Freddie Mercury, Lady Gaga, Elton John, The Beatles, Diana Ross, Jody Watley, Mariah Carey and the one and only Whitney Houston.

What inspires you to make music?

My inspiration is the passion and ultimate desire to express myself. And the outlet through which I do is music. The complete freedom of emotional expression, tone, feeling, asthetic. It all just makes me feel like I have a friend that's there until the end and beyond. May not be a physical prescence but indeed a friend like none other.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

The message I desire to spread is, no thing, no one, can stop you from doing what you were born to do at the best you can possibly do it. We all have gifts and talents but it is out job to curate it and ignore the negativity and doubters because they want to see you fall ultimately but if you stick to it and keep your eyes on the prize, the world is yours.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

I have yet to do this but I am looking forward to it a great deal. One of my strongest desires is to connect with people face to face through the music, it's so much more powerful.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

I think in today's musical climate, there is a sparce group of actual musicians that are recognized on a popular scope. The quality, likeability, passion and unique indentity of the music has declined a great deal. The only way to improve it is to curate more passionate and genuinely talented musical artists that could infiltrate the industry.

What do you think of Drooble?

I think it's a great platform for indie artists. It connects you with people who have some of the same aspirations and dreams as you and it's very gratifying to be able to do something as such seeing as back in the 80s/90s you couldn't do such a thing without physically altering your location.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

As a musician, I am not frustrated. I am living in my passion and as long as I am doing that without limitation, border or blockage, I am a happy individual.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

I stream a few of the local artists in the Houston area, haven't seen any live in show but I do request on radio and stream the music.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

I think you should have a unique identity and prescence that is irreplaceable and unforgettable, I think you should have drive which derives from passion to push you to do the unconventional and do things that scare you but are beneficial to your growth and success as an artist, I think you should make great music, at least good, and that comes from practice and the curation of your creative talents. I think you should be social and be willing to market yourself because if you're not buying into your own self, other people surely won't.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

I listen to LANY, Njomaze, Charli XCX, Troye Sivan, The 1975, Jody Watley. Those are just a few of the artists who have major talents in music but haven't been recognized as they ultimately deserve to be.
