MARK CHRISTOPHER BAND

Story

1. The craziest thing was back in the early days, we were hired to play a private event in areally hardcore part of town like east Los Angeles where the crowd was basically two hundred gang members, convicts, and a bunch rowdy women. They wanted us to setup in the back yard against the wall, behind the wall was a set of train tracks. The crowd was not very receptive at first so during the second set we broke into Crazy Train from Ozzy Osbourne and right when the song breaks into the lyrics here comes a frieght train barreling down the tracks about 50 miles an hour blasting his horn creating a back drop and the crowd went totally crazy. After that we had won the crowd over and the gig was agreat success. 2. It's always a great feeling when your work is apprecciated a received well by the audience it makes it all worth it. 3.We all have lived in Los Angeles all of our lives born and raised, and music was something we all related to. The various styles and culture of the city always had a large influence on our music. The song Too Many Years reflects the struggles of trying to be successful in one of the largest markets in the world. 4.We all grew up in working class families were it was a struggle just to put food on the table. We grew up wanting to make a better life for ourselves and our families . Music was our release our outlet to make our mark to be recognized it gave us heart, soul , courage, and honor. 5. I like keeping an open mind to all things especiallly in the arts from Classical music to the Blues, Rock, Funk, Heavy Metal, and R&B all styles if it's good and moves you then you got substance soul. 6. Having worked with many various musicians over the years some really great players, it has for the most part been a great learning experience. on and off the stage or in the studio most of the time the creative side of things are fantastic. The team we have now is just great. 7. My Father was a Jazz pianist I really miss him, waking up every moring hearing him play was part of my daily routine . My brothers have all played instruments guitars , drums, my nephew also plays. 8.The most rewarding thing to me is the audiences reaction to the music it's a great feeling to have them appreciate what you do, to move them in a way and share that energy that's kind of magical. It's always a challenge to be better then you were last time to improve and grow as an artist. 9. I wouldn't call them role models they are more like teachers influences. I really like Jeff Beck , Hendrix , Page, Clapton, Buddy Guy to name a few. But really just about any guitar player that moves me. 10. All my performences are filled with many memories some good some not but they all have been a really great experience, performing is what it's all about. 11. Keep practicing, learning, listening, keep an open mind there's a great big world out there take it all in. 12.There is an album in the works actually mixing down as we speak. Should be done real soon keep an eye and ear out.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

The Mark Christopher Band Works on New Music LA Band Works on New Material FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Los Angeles, California – May 19, 2019– The city of Los Angeles has come to be known as a transplant locale. A place where one moves to make moves. The men of The Mark Christopher Band stray from the pack because to them, this city if simply home. All three come from a varying set of influences that come together to create a sound that fully reflects the struggle of what it means to strive and survive a place where everyone is trying to make something out of nothing. Raised in Los Angeles, all three men know the highs of lows their hometown can offer. Leading man Mark Christopher picked up his first guitar at 15 after watching his jazz pianist father for years. He wanted in on the action and with that went from playing in high school to graduating to local bars and clubs. The same can be said of bassist Philip Friedland, who also worked hard making a name for himself in the local club scene. For Steve Roybal, he’s played on one of the biggest stages LA has to offer. A member of the Los Angeles Junior. Philharmonic, this drummer brings his style alive by incorporating technique he’s picked up from the likes of his influences that include Louis Bellson, Gene Krupa, and Buddy Rich. Local boys and a Philharmonic member, they came together over a shared love of blues, hard rock and that a soulful LA street sound that very few are in tune with. Until now that is with The Mark Christopher Band. They’ve put all their eclectic styles into one and emerged with their own take on music, one that has served them well playing everywhere in Los Angeles from the infamous Viper Room to Molly Malone’s down on Fairfax. They want to continue to build up their local fan base in LA and throughout Orange County as well, all while putting out their third album in the coming months.

What is your music dream?

Mark Christopher Band Dynamic soulful abstract group Mark Christopher Band went through the the same as many other bands do, actually on the prowl for a name that was available for their existing and growing fan base. They needed something dynamic, yet showed their band as soulful and in touch with the music. In other words, Mark Christopher band wanted to play abstract, but not distract in trying to be a step apart from the other groups playing the circuit. The versatile group always says that the name is their representative and is pretty much everything they’ve strived and slaved for. In the end, it’s not the name, it’s the music that becomes important. It’s likely that when one hears or downloads a song from an unknown group one is more apt to remember the tune rather than the name of the band. Mark Christopher band doesn’t want to put out the monies to secure a top-notch trademark attorney, but if trouble arises, they are willing to do anything to keep their name safe. The band is already a “stand-alone” and hold their own in the music arena called Los Angeles CA. But even more famous music acts come to mind when a name change is in order. A good example was when Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones started a new group. The music was fantastic and sounded like a cool running stream, flowing out nicely, but the real struggle here was picking a name for the new band. They ended up calling themselves something like “Them Crooked Vultures”, but the name had no connection to John Paul Jones, it was again, the music that counted more than a name. It’s not easy to find a name for a new band, or change a name of that band. Actually, for a band as dynamic and soulful like Mark Christopher Band, there is no need for the unavailable supplies of catchy musical group names, and that goes for 2-word band names as well. A lot of new groups are starting to take on funny nonsensical marque type names. Again, it’s the music, not the name of the band that will be the ultimate crowd pleaser because people will walk away humming the tune rather than the name of the band. Even The Beatles were once The Silver Beetles. Music veterans would certainly agree that Mark Christopher Band was already gaining momentum. They were starting to get known as The Mark Christopher Band. They know that changing a name can be disastrous. A great example would be a very unknown band who were invited in 1992, by Kurt Cobain of Nirvana to come on a worldwide tour with his band. The band was called Captain America and that is how the concert promoters set it up and printed it before the tour started.
