Mac The Gemini

Story

Hlomelo Zintwane better known by his stage name Mac The Gemini is a South African hip hop artist born in the North West province. Coming from one of the townships in Klerksdorp in the North West province where he spent most of his teenage years, he saw and had to overcome alot of things which would be a worst nightmare to most teenagers such as poverty, crime and drugs. It wasn't until high school where he fell in love with making music and used it to escape his hush reality, He started writing songs, taught himself how to produce and hip hop being his favorite genre he chose to rap. He released his debut EP titled "Fruitful Endeavor" in 2018 which was an emotional type of hip hop, in 2019 he released the remastered version of the EP followed by three singles namely "High And Drunk" and "Out The Gutter". Mac The Gemini is one artist who speaks about his teenage life through his music, coming from a poor background, he speaks most about the drugs and crime that was exposed to him as a teenager and how he managed to avoid taking drugs and doing crime when most teenagers were doing it.

With music is how feelings sound like, so I express how I feel with my music and I tell my stories.

What inspires you to make music?

Everything around me inspires my music, where I come from, what is around me and what I experience, All those aspects play a part in my music.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

That nothing in this world is impossible, if you can dream it you can reach it.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

I feel like I'm on top of the world, like nothing gets better than this.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

Musicians have the what I believe is the harshest reality ever where you'll find an artist doing very well with their music but at the same time they are poor. Artists should be payed accordingly for their art, I think that's how we can improve the situation.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Not being able to do what I love, which is music

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

Yes, by streamin and buying music from other artists and being a fan of local music

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Good production, good song writing and good story telling.
