Story

You reyt? I am Luc (Artist name Lucious), a hybrid music producer, DJ and multi-instrumentalist born and raised in Sheffield. I have been featured countless times on BBC Radio via BBC introducing with my first minutes of air time being my proud debut song ‘Theories’ which I released back in September 2020. My favoured style of music is House and EDM bangers but I also like to create songs in a different genre as well, hence why I am a ‘hybrid’ music artist. MY STORY: I have always been a very creative person and I love to combine my creativity with my grand passion for music. Since a very young age, I had been learning to DJ and play many instruments, taking private lessons with DJs and being taught by the same tutor who honed the skills of Jamie Cook, a guitarist from the infamous Arctic Monkeys. As I like British Rock music, from time to time I would go down to Yellow Arch rehearsal with a few of my school mates and would jam for a few hours doing covers, creating our own songs and nearly deafening ourselves in the process. 2017 was the year that I decided to begin my music career just after going on a miniature tour with a local Jazz band, representing both Sheffield Music Hub and Music For Youth charity before ultimately performing at a sell-out crowd at the legendary Royal Albert Hall in London. Becoming an experience that I would never forget. A few months after, I began to give creating my own music a go starting off with the most underrated DAW that is… GarageBand lol. Anyway, I ended up releasing a few songs on my old Soundcloud with my mate to begin with. The songs we made were, ‘Rhapsody’ and ‘CentreEye’ – Weird name I know. Then kept on releasing more until I moved onto what would be my go-to choice of DAWs FL Studio, I absolutely adore this software man. It checked every box for me and I’m still learning it many years later as it is probably one of the most unique software you can learn and it really shows how everyone’s mixing process is different which is why I love it. Then that pandemic occurred… Coping With Insolation: Despite how awful our lives were during the pandemic, I tried my best to find light when staying at home 24/7. It turned out to be incredibly beneficial to me because at the time I began teaching myself music production trying to get to grips with FL Studio and it honestly felt like I had all the time in the world and I was refining my skills rapidly – If the pandemic hadn’t of occurred I would most likely have been anywhere near as good at producing as I am today.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

For me, music is and will always play a huge part in my life. I love the unmatched joy passion and over-whelming freedom you experience when creating your own songs

What is your music dream?

My ambitions are to grow a strong and enjoyable fanbase through social media, continue to create amazing and meaningful songs that go viral and ultimately go touring internationally to major festivals as a DJ.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

Always start with your plan... It keeps you focused and ultimately consistent which is key if you wish to significantly change the world. No plan = No success

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

Ooh, tough question this. As a lad from Sheffield, it's got to be one from the Arctic Monkeys. I'm saying 'Cornerstone'. Now I think more about it lol, 'This Is Love' by Bob Marley. My parents used to put this on when I was getting to sleep when I was little. Beautiful song. Both are my childhood :)

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

I would say, The Chemical Brothers, Martin Garrix, The Arctic Monkeys, The Stone Roses, OASIS. Interesting mix but... It's just me innit.

What inspires you to make music?

If I go to a music festival that inspires me a bit, hearing fresh music from famous or undiscovered artists/bands. Sometimes the time of year as well, e.g. Summer when I have more time to think about songs I wanna create. Made my song Eventide which is a very summer themed song. Another thing is the environment as well which sparks my creativity. Say, if I went to a recording studio or rehearsal rooms with me' mates I'll just suddenly get a flood of inspiration.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

To feel good I suppose. I want people to feel euphoric when listening to my tunes.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

Obviously it's a little nerving at first, but DON'T let your nerves get the better of you. It purely depends on your attitude before preforming. Say you go in reyt nervous you'll probably F*ck it up. Understand and analyse your atmosphere, and those nerves will turn to utmost excitement. Trust me, I've learned from the mistake of being to nervous.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

I hate to say this but I've noticed that there is a lot of negative energy flowing through the music industry at the moment. People feeling down because their music is not performing well on streaming services, can't grow socials and all that. I understand it because I AM part of it, but I aint gonna let low engagement make me re-evaluate my choices. Just stick to it and you will see amazing results. I believe in you!

What do you think of Drooble?

Well I think it is a fantastic concept, I haven't fully explored it yet but I can't wait to!!!

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Writer's block... That's it tbh

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

Definitely, I'm part of my local scene as I am a musician. Just because I am part of it doesn't mean that I shouldn't support it. I always try and see the best in local scenes, giving feedback to their songs and striving to make it a better place for all. Respect your local musicians

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Nowadays with us doing pretty much everything online, I believe that you need to acquire computing skills, gain a basic understanding of business and promotion through social media etc. because the industry is turning into a very do-it-yourself environment.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

The best unheard of band I went to see was ELVANA, they were f*cking reyt good... I mean BRILLIANT. Basically it were a NIRVANA tribute band with an Elvis impersonator as the front man lmao.
