Kara Brooke

Story

This is KARA BROOKE signing in., I was born and raised, and very proud to be from Massachusetts. Growing up was an adventure in itself for me. Being the oldest of 3, my two younger brothers and I grew up in a town that doesn't even have a stop light, even to this day. Brookfield Massachusetts. While always having a knack for creative arts thru out my primary and high school years, I always was kinda weird and took pride in my differences. Always trying to express myself thru poetry and telling stories to entertain my friends I grew a special bond with my childhood friends. This gave me a good support team to start my young life. To make people laugh is something I love to do. Honestly, I can't even tell a joke right, yet peoples response to my humor is rewarding. I’ve always had something to say and with poetry, it gave me an outlet to express myself when I was in need of guidance or strength. Being an 11-year-old poet isn't all fun and games. I was always looking thru the window of pain and always wanted to absorb other peoples pain, so that they wouldn't have to. Someone once said to me" Kara it's not knowing everyone's situation, it's being able to understand where they are coming from" . That always stayed with me and I always had high emotion and always cared about helping people thru hard times in their lives. As a teen I was the typical black sheep of my whole combined family, They always loved me yet I was always looking for something that was mine, truly mine. After high school, I set out to discover this thing that I couldn't explain and definitely couldn't find staying in my hometown. I started going to a special type of concert/experience in the year 2000.. Phil Lesh and Friends at the tweeter center in Mansfield mass was my first DEAD show, being 10 in 1995 when Jerry Garcia passed away I was unable to experience THE GRATEFUL DEAD. Yet the community and passion was passed on thru a bands loyalty to their fans. I’ll never forget it. This experience changed my life in so many amazing ways. Being part of something that I found on much rewarding and I couldn't get enough MUSIC. Growing up under the wing of my grandfather Big Al Downing was a blessing. His guidance gave me a childhood of what dreams of made of and am forever grateful for his love. There was something I always felt I needed to experience.. The struggling artist, pocket change for money, traveling across the country on a hope and a dream to see the music I fell in love with. While getting the view from the first few rows from the stage felt like the most important thing at the time, I was always determined that I would end up on that stage, this was just part of my adventure. After a 4 year endless tour in 2005, my world turned upside down. My #1. My hero left this earth on the fourth of July, and my life has never been the same. It was a shock to my soul that day, someone who had been my driving force and the person who was the inspiration behind all my passion was gone. I stopped touring and settled down in myrtle beach SC. My son was born and it was a great time in my life to have gained such an angel after losing such a big part of my heart. For the next decade, I worked as a server/bartender, wrote songs about life, gathered my thoughts and decided to make a goal with my music. Even tho my backbone wasn't by my side I knew the music wasn't steering me a direction I couldn't handle.. my goal was to write and record a song all on my own... just one song., SO MUCH was the outcome of that goal, and from then on it was in full effect. I was so inspired on how it came out I decided to make it a goal to get my songs in order and bring them to life. I wanted to record my album from the ground up. Recording with dual tape deck, various programs and gaining the knowledge to record demos on my own was a big part in this process. From writing melody's, keeping video footage of writing the melody's and just creating sound ... the sound I always heard and knew was there. Thru this time frame, I had my youngest child, a daughter, and my family is what gives me the drive to achieve my dreams. This is me , I am a dreamer and will never stop pushing the envelope to see what lies ahead. I believe that everyone has a destiny and the answer to our own fate lies within ourselves.. As a person of many colors and of many different circumstances, it is a godsend that I am able to give people hope and encouragement. If I touch one person's heart with my words and sounds then that is where I find my happy. I am a not so regular girl and Im very ok with that. Thank you so much for taking the time to read about me and my life growing up..NOW let's MAKE SOME MUSIC!!
