I grew up the son of a preacher, which for me meant extreme sheltering, and no electronics. I spent my childhood outside until I got a guitar for my 13th birthday. From the day I got my guitar I would practice every minute I could. My parents, skeptical of the real world, did not get me music leasons in fear of me learning the devil's music. (rock) But a guitar player from our church showed me one scale, the Pentatonic scale, and from that, I learned to improvise on my own, music thay I could feel. Eventually I got a computer and started looking up tabs, mostly Metallica, and from there my music knowledge only increased. I laid my guitar down around age 20, and turned to drugs when the love of my life was killed, and recently, at tje age of 26, I picked it back up to set down the pipe to pick up a pick.
Music gives me an alternative to the physical realm we live in. I believe that all of creation is energy, positive, negative, and neutral. When the vibrations come to us, they are being sent as a message from one soul to another. Music is the most intimate, soulful form of communication we have.
I dream of some day creating music that reaches people, and conveys the same emotion to them as I felt when I created it.
I would start with myself. Change begins at the source, and each of us is a perspective to the universe, and world as a unit. We are all one, and all are but one perspective.
From my childhood, I remember "Jesus Loves Me." Since Hymns were all I knew of until about the age of 14
My Favorite Musical Artist is Maynard James Keenan. TOOL being my obvious favorite band. However, Puscifer, and A Perfect Circle follow suit. Following that is none too closely, but in other Genres, Anthony Green.
Often, inspiration comes to me in low times. Rarely do I feel inspiration when I am happy, then again, rarely do I feel happiness. But like I always say, "You can not know happiness, unless you know sadness. For in a perfect world, perfection is normality, and to be content would be unknown, because you can only see a rainbow after a storm."
There is no reward without a risk. No prize, without contest. Everything happens for a reason, even though the reason may not be important to you, it could mean the world to someone else, and we are all the same, each and every one of us.
I have only played in front of a church twice, on one occasion I performed a worship song with my mother, which was when I was 13, and it was quite awkward, but easy enough, there were only 2 chords. And the other occasion I played with my cousin's worship band, and got to improvise a 30 second solo, which was invigorating because no one was expecting that from the rest of the song. Sort of out of place, but they all got to hear what I was capable of, which was the first time for 99% of the audience.
It is wonderful for those who have employment. Myself, I am seeking a job, but I am not experienced enough to be part of a band quite yet. I would love to obtain the experience though. That's why I am here.
So far, I like the interactivity and potential. Eager to hear back on my sounds, and get feedback to grow as a musician. Let me have it, because constructive criticism is what I need. I've never had any guitar lessons, so any tips, or helpful tricks would be very much appreciated.
Block. When I can not feel the notes flow from me, I get frustrated, and discouraged.
I don't know where any local scene plays. I have a friend that plays, and jam with him on occasion. He records a lot of content, and plays drums, but we have yet to record anything together. I am encouraging him to join, but soundcloud is more his focus
A musician must be quite assertive and aggressive in their search for rwcognition
Stan Waller. My best musician friend
