John Floy

John Floy

Hello everyone, John Floy here. Been playing guitar since I was a little kid. Throughout my life I have played in several bands and recorded about 4 solo albums on my own. Mainly instrumental guitar works, I like to sit in my home studio and just layer tracks until I come up with something I like. Like many of you know sometimes you get lucky and record something special. I have posted some of those lucky tracks on here. Hope everyone enjoys. I have, as of, April 2019 joined a new band called "Channel 3". You can visit our website at to find out where we are playing and to hear our music. I also have some other sites if you are interested in hearing more of my music: Official Website --> YouTube Channel --> FaceBook --> Twitter --> SoundCloud --> iTunes/Apple Music --> Google Play --> iHeartRadio --> Deezer --> Amazon Music --> Spotify --> Napster --> Thanks everyone!

What is music to you? What does it give you?

It’s an escape, I have been hooked listening and playing music since I was a little kid. It gives me hope when I’m down, happiness, sadness, and everything in between.

What is your music dream?

Of course when I was younger I wanted to be in a rock band and see the world. Well that didn’t happen so I went to college and earned a degree and now work as a software engineer. At this stage on in life I am just happy writing, playing, and recording.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

Take corporate and special interest money out of politics, I think that will solve a lot of issues and let the peoples voices be truly heard by the government. Feel the hungry, house the homeless, heal the sick...I know it sounds cheesy but that is where i'd start.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

A Day In The Life by The Beatles, remember hearing that and just loved the melody.

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Pink Floyd, David Gilmour has a big influence on my playing style. I like how he can take a few amount of notes and make them sound so melodic. Steavy Ray Vaughan got me playing blues for sure, and I also am a sucker for some 80s era Eric Clapton as well.

What inspires you to make music?

My mood to be honest, sometimes I feel creative and just get lucky and record something good. Sometimes I hear a song in my head and try to recreate it, can be tricky for sure.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

I want it to take the listener to the same place I am when I am recording it. Sometimes I forget where I am, and that's a great feeling.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

Very nervous, I can do it and have done it many times. I usually just have to suck it up and just go out there and play. After the first few songs I usually relax and perform better.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

I think with the advent of the internet and independent artist sites such as Drooble, we are able to listen to even more independent artist now. Not being held back by major recording labels. I have discovered some great new artists this way. My main issue with pop music that is on the radio and everywhere is that it all sounds the same.

What do you think of Drooble?

Great platform, like the karma system. I find myself hanging out here quite a bit discovering new artist. Great site.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

The recording process, i am by no means a sound engineer. But I sit there in garageband adding tracks and mixing, sometimes I get lucky and get a good mix and sometimes I struggle with it. Spending more time fiddling with that than actually playing and recording.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

I play in a local rock band called "Channel 3" here in Oklahoma City. We play about 1 gig a month which is the perfect amount for me. Channel 3 can be found at As a fan we play with alot of local artist so we get to know them and support their music as well.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Be honest with yourself and just play

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

Too many to note to be honest, I have my playlist already pretty full of some great artist I have heard on Drooble. I like all genres so it's nice to change it up and get the kind of variety available on this platform.
