John Swilley

BIO

John Swilley is a 25-year-old singer/songwriter from Athens, GA. Born in Decatur, GA, he began writing at the age of 14. A vocal performance major at The University of Georgia, he is completely self-taught on both guitar and piano, and his original sound is described by Athens’ Flagpole magazine as “a blend of Southern Rock, sultry R&B and Funk, with a twist of Delta Blues…” Early on, John sang lead, and co-wrote with several Athens-based indie bands, but he has emerged as primarily a solo artist. He has performed in many locations across the Southeast, including the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL; the world-famous Bluebird Café in Nashville, TN; and in both of Athens’ iconic venues: The Georgia Theater and The 40-Watt Club. For the last two years, he held a spring “residency,” performing weekly in downtown Athens and he also appears regularly in multiple singer/songwriter showcases including The Sofa Sessions, hosted by Grammy-award winning songwriter Bruce Burch and The Best of Unknown Athens started by songwriter Liam Parke. In 2016, he was a featured artist in the Sounds of the South music festival in Milledgeville, GA. His first EP, Broken Melodies, was released in 2015 and can be found on iTunes, CD Baby and Spotify.
