John Ludi

Story

I'm a reasonably pleasant individual who writes, plays, and records surprisingly tuneful and melodic songs about war, greed, materialism, the environment, apathy, corruption, mortality, the human condition, and the probable end of civilization. I'm fun at parties. Oh wait...did I say parties? I meant to say funerals.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

It is something that is as vital a part of myself as the blood running though my veins. It brings me joy and sorrow and contemplation. Nothing moves me more than music when it resonates.

What is your music dream?

Just to share my music with others who might get something out of it. Not looking to take over the world or anything...I don't want that level of responsibility.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

Empathy...humans need more of it across the board.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

Wild Horses.

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

David Bowie, Joni Mitchell, Peter Gabriel, King Crimson, Kate Bush, Low, Dead Can Dance, Midnight Oil, the list is pretty huge.

What inspires you to make music?

I make it for its own sake, frankly. It's a primal drive for me and not really reducible. I've tried to stop several times, but it always pulls me back in.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

My "mission" has always been to share ideas and concepts and to raise overall awareness and critical thinking.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

I rarely play live anymore...but at when I did it ranged from ecstasy to a strong desire to go home and read a book. I 'm better with a band than as a solo acoustic act...and I enjoy it a lot more.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

The old music industry model is dead and gone...and nothing really tangible has replaced it as a reliable way to make a career in it viable if you're at all off the beaten path or don't slavishly follow current trends...and if even if you ARE doing that, it's a long shot.

What do you think of Drooble?

Looks interesting so far. The concept is intriguing. I have to do a lot more exploring of it. I like that it's a site where people who truly have an interest in music may be drawn to.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

That there are so few people who are truly passionate about music anymore. It's more of a background to a lifestyle these days. Too few people really LISTEN to music, it seems. And cords. I'm always getting tangled up in cords. I hate that.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

Not much of one here...mostly that whole hipster folk thing...some of which I like, but I'm a recluse and I live off-grid in a yurt much of the time.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

No idea...but whatever they are, I probably don't have them. ;)

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

I'll have to get back with you on that...I'm into a lot of obscure stuff...it could take hours.
