New ID

Story

John Banda (born 21st August), also known as New ID is a Zambian Christian hip hop recording artist, songwriter and lay theologian born in Eastern Province (Lundazi to be specific) and is based in Lusaka. He grew up listening to different hip hop giants, thus he cites several MCs as influencing his style of music, including Tech N9ne, Sarkodie, M.I Abaga, Chef 187, Lecrae, Macky 2, Abstract, Pompi, Mag44, Eshon Burgundy, Bizzle, KB & NF. He began his music in 2013 under the name Trek 106 with his friends while in school. He changed his name after he rededicated his life to Christ and read 2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." As a Christian and New Creation, New ID cites Dr Myles Munroe, Reinhard Bonke, Billy Graham, John Bunyan, C.H Spurgeon, and C.S Lewis, among others, as early influences on his Christian faith, the last of whom New ID calls his "personal hero". He also looks to Martin Luther King Jr. for inspiration on working out faith in application to social issues. His purpose in music is to get young people to know Jesus Christ and to speak on social issues affecting the masses in alignment with the word of God.
