MRVN Music - Nurme

Story

Hi! I'm MRVN Music, also known as Nurme; I'm a 21 year old mostly self taught musician who engages in all kinds of genres (Post Punk, Metal, Grunge, Ambient, IDM, Blues, Jazz, Folk and soft rock etc) My journey starts 9 years ago in Feb 2015 when i started writing my first songs (Roundtown Jang was one I remember...It was catchy and poppy, but not in a good way; It was very obnoxious, lmao) One of the firstalbums I ever bought was Linkin Park's Living Things, the same year it came out. But I didn't become fully interested in music until 2015 when in 6th grade i discovered Michael Jackson aaaaaaaaand Melanie Martinez. That same year as I started 7th grade I became a huge Beatles fan and had this long phase of albums on repeat and making playlists with my favourite songs. Once I was tired of the surface-stuff I started digging through all their unreleased rare music on bootlegs and such.. I even started wanting my hair to be similar but found the moptop to be annoyingly warm during the summer. I eventually picked my favourite beatle and it turned out to be George Harrison, who is still a huge inspiration for me in different ways. I then briefly moved back on the Michael Jackson for a short while and then Nirvana which led to me wanting to grow my hair out and digging through all their records and getting inspired to record my own. In 2017 I found comfort in Early Pink Floyd with Syd Barrett and soon his solo music too, bordering on an addiction I was consuming Syd daily ( ? ). I Eventually discovered my all-time idols, Joy Division. Same year, Jeff & also Tim Buckley, who I shared an interest with a close friend with all three aforementioned. Then around 2018 i really got into Alice In Chains, Soundgarden and the next year Burzum, Mayhem, Pantera, Fear Factory, Radiohead and more recently Korn, etc. In October 2023 I had a decent week without any health debacles, so I spent much of that time exploring new genres of music, and low and behold! I discovered four genres that I had both grown up with and been on-off curious about; those were Dnb, IDM (Braindance), Jungle & Breakcore! I never thought I would EVER resonate with these genres beyond the soundtracks in games I played as a child (Ratchet & Clank, Rayman, Spyro....etc), but I DID, and I fell in love! There's so much going on and It has encapsulated me! I had actually already been working on an album, for about two years, that is very much reminiscent of these aforementioned genres, but I had not known about the names of these until last year! Music is so freaking exciting, holy crap... I love music ? And I love you guys ? I've released 16 Albums/EPs so far and am currently working on my 17th. Over my 5 years of composing i have amassed a total of around 6000 songs, (although the majority are terrible) many in different states of disrepair. Around 200 are complete, and I'm aiming to work on the remaining ones for the rest of my life. ?

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

Feelings, Expression. Love, hate , Depression and John Lydon.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

I seem to get my kicks from performing. It keeps me happy and gives me confidence to try different things and experiment with both the music and shocking the audience in different ways. I always feel good after a performance.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

To live as a musician nowadays you have to constantly tour and play live cause people just don't buy albums anymore. I think that there really should only be official music for channels and no external people uploading the artists music.... as much as i want there to be freedom it makes them lose out on money cause you can just find it easily everywhere on the web without any effort. Music is just as important as any job cause it gives society entertainment which boosts their desire to work and live, so these unfair salaries and payments are just a joke to tell them to get a "real" job.

What do you think of Drooble?

I think it's the best opportunity for smaller artists that we could ever get because it advertises the music quite equally.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Not having the motivation work on my wagon load of unfinished music.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

Even though i moved to my current location six months ago i actually do support them and listen to their music where i can find it. Once i start my own band i definitely want to collaborate and shout them out aswell.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Well make sure your songs have the following : Sexual words, swearing, scantily clad women and you're set....Sigh.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

Tim Buckley, Syd Barrett, Moondog, Mother Love Bone, Days of the New, Mad Season and Travis Meeks
