Red as the Sun

Story

Red as the Sun is not your average rock and roll band, with their catchy licks backed by Metal-infused Punk Rock, their Flowing Bass Lines, or their Hulk-Smashing drum beats, they are sure to turn heads! People ask us what do you sound like? Our response: Have a listen, judge for yourself then let us know what you think. Artist info: (Lead vocals and backing guitar) Scott is the newest add-in to Red As The Sun and he’s diggin’ it. Playing drums since he was 11 and guitar since he was 23, he is a newcomer to the live music scene in San Diego, having just moved south from the LA/OC area in 2015. Scott was last seen fronting and playing guitar in venues like The Mint in LA, The World Famous Viper Room in Hollywood with his prior band Feelin’ Naughty, as well as varied outdoor festivals. Once per year Scott gets together with a talented bunch from Nashville (calling themselves “Driftwood”) to play one-offs for the Seal Beach Summer Jam. Scott writes like crazy nowadays and is looking to lock in his latest batch of songs to BMI/Nashville with songwriting creds. Scott can likely be found following Dead and Company on tour with his lovely Deadhead wife, has been to Dave Grohl’s birthday bash at the Forum in L.A., but will never limit his exposure to just about any rock, folk, country, jazz, blues and Motown music he can get in to see. Scott says, “Whether it’s a trainwreck or a blow your mind performance, it’s tremendous to see what happens in a live setting. So get out there and ROCK!” (Drums) Jason is a heavy metal lover who learned to play the drums by playing like the style of Lars Ulrich of Metallica and Igor Cavalera of Sepultura. Jason's first band was from the age of 16-18 (1991-1993) with 2 other guitarists, one guitarist played the rhythm guitar like a Bass during solo's. His second band "The Sinnerz" formed in December 2013 and ended in October 2014 after playing around 10 live gigs in bars and clubs around San Diego, CA. His 3rd band "Blind Madman" formed in late 2014 with the guitarist(George Herman) from "The Sinnerz", the band then recruited Matthew Marine as their music school trained Bass player, and Allen Vega as their vocalist. Unfortunately, things never really got off the ground due to personal issues and Matthew having to depart the band after a few months of playing. George decided to make a lifestyle change and moved away from San Diego. While he was taking a sabbatical, Jason played drums for a local San Diego band called "Three Chamber Heart", playing multiple shows at various popular San Diego venues. Once, George, the guitarist returned Red as the Sun was full steam ahead and began recruiting new members. We've recruited two new members and have almost finished our setlist. The path we are on is up and forward. (Lead/Rhythm Guitar) George. He discovered the guitar as a teen and began to learn how to play it when he was fourteen. Almost 40 years later, he is still perfecting his craft. He is a lover of most music, and particularly, guitar music. Growing up in San Jose, CA the 70’s and 80’s it was obviously apparent (because of his feisty wild man attitude) that he would discover hard rock bands of the time, which made a fast path to punk rock. Inspired by bands from the Addicts to Zeppelin, and most points in between, he has developed his own flavor of guitar playing and loves the challenge the instrument presents. He was the singer for a short period for a band called War Cry, with his punk rock mates. Back then, the scene was a collection of mostly kids and young adults from all around Santa Clara County. There were many local bands, some were very good, and some became famous… but I digress. Anyway, George went through an outlaw country phase and found some peace in Willie and Waylon among many others. Fast forward to now. Usually, it’s a Les Paul plugged into a Marshall jamming along with the rest of band. So put on your shoes and go see Red As The Sun, we guarantee a good time. Subscribe to our e-mail list or check the website, so we can keep you informed as to where we are playing next, and you can get out newest releases first if you sign up via e-mail. (Bass) Kelly has been playing bass for over 10 years. He also plays blues harp and some keys. His influences range from punk to blues to country to rock to techno. He has also been known to listen to Gregorian chants. His favorite thing in the world is laying down the low tone and making toes tap. His happy place is sharing the energy of being on stage with band-mates and watching the audience groove to the sound. We are in the process of starting some new songs and will shortly begin gigging again in and around the greater San Diego area. Our influences are The Germs, Rage Against The Machine, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Judas Priest, The Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion, The Ramones, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Clash, Alice In Chains, Linkin Park, Ramones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and more.
