Herman Kappen

Story

I'm a singer/keyboard player/arranger/composer and lead singer and keyboard player in a funk band called The Funky Monster Band. I also occasionally play keys in a 70's-80's rock cover band. Aside from that, I love just jamming with my music friends. I also work on solo projects and collaborative projects with other musicians. You can listen to some of my solo stuff through the video's I posted here or else visit my YouTube channel or follow on Instagram (@h3rmankapp3n). I don't upload songs to Drooble because they are already on most streaming services. I was born, grew up and studied in the Netherlands but have been living in Spain for more than 14 years now. What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music gives me inspiration, makes me feel alive. When I wake up in the morning, I immediately pick up my phone to open Spotify and listen to some music. I play my keyboards every day, love to watch YouTube videos from other musicians. Band practice is something I also look forward to. I could go on and on, but I'm certain I'm not the only one who feels this way on Drooble ;-)

What is your music dream?

No big dreams, so long as I will be able to continue to enjoy playing and listening to music and sharing some of my music with others.

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

To many to mention them all. Since I was very Young, I have been a fan of groups like YES, Genesis and Pink Floyd. I'm an all-time Kate Busn fan. I love what Lenny Kravits is doing. I love the sound of the Fender Rhodes piano, so am always looking for new music that uses this instrument (or like-sounding instruments). I'm also a fan of artists like Jamie Cullum, Ed Sheeran and Adele.

What inspires you to make music?

I feel inspired by people around me. I have a lot of musician friends and love getting together and jam, or just play a whole load of song covers. I also find it inspiring to listen to Drooble radio and regularly check out Soundcloud and similar places.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

I just want people to feel good. If, just for a tiny moment, I could make people forget about their daily lives, that would be great.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

I feel happy and energized. I like the adrenalin surge but most of all, I love it when I see the audience is having a good time

What do you think of Drooble?

It's a great initiative. It has the potential to grow into the world's Number One social site for musicians, as long as the entry level remains low so that everyone feels comfortabel and encouraged to share their music. It's ok if you upload a first attempt that may still sound a bit rough on the edges. Don't be afraid to share.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

There is a music club in the town where I live which I visit regularly. I sometimes go to music festivals. There is also a group of musicians I have just become a part of who twice a year rent some place in the country to get together and just play and enjoy music together. I regularly go to concerts of my music friends.
