Story

PS ;-) : If you like my music then please follow Siren's Sky on Spotify, Deezer or on other platforms! Music opens the doors to my soul and vice-versa. I have been devoted to music all my life. Playing the guitar since I was 15 and started my own band and gigging around the end of my 40-s (!). My first band was Rotterdam / NL based New Wave / Alternative Rock band ‘Eyes Are Blind’ (2007-2011) in which I was the songwriter, guitarist and (sometimes) singer. In 2010 I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The prognoses was bleak and I was hospitalized for months, receiving an autologous stem cell transplant in 2011. After that I formed ‘The Undertow’ but we only lasted for about a year. At that point I decided to slow down and starting recording my own songs. Although the disease returned in 2015 it never stopped me from making music. Through my Siren’s Sky project , I have been working with female vocalists from all around the world. Some of them I never met in person. But the musical click was always there and enabled me to realize the music I love. Thank you Lydia Salnikova, eSoreni, Mella Barnes, Jessica Rasche, Esther Bredius and Nadine Bakker Van Goudzwaard for lending me fantastic vocals and making my music shine. At this point I have decided to take a break but I may be open for new collaborations in the future.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

For me music starts where words end. It reveals the unspeakable and represents a higher vibration. Together with love, music is the most universal language in the world.

What is your music dream?

To be connected and share as much as possible with other people through music.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

I would love when people would be less selfish and dogmatic and would be more open, altruistic and empathical. There is more that unites us than seperates us.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

Don't know, there have been so many. Maybe Ruby Tuesday of The Stones, Tin Soldier of the Small Faces or She Loves You by The Beatles

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Hundreds, see my profile where I have tried to summarize some of them.

What inspires you to make music?

Sharing melodies and emotion. Being surprised how music seemingly is born out of nothing. Or maybe it was there all the time and I was just blessed with an antenna to percieve it.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

Love, energy, a positive vibe, emotion, being human.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

I don't perform anymore, but I always felt good and 'in sync' when performing. A hundred times better than speaking in front of an audience. Music is the vehicle that carries me further.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

Commerce has taken over music. It's all about money, loudness and beats. There still is good music out there, but in spite of all possibilities we now have in terms of recording, it is equally difficult to get your music heard.

What do you think of Drooble?

It is a great platform to get in contact with other musicians and share ideas.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Trying to get heard, for instance on Spotify or on similar platforms. And all the hassle it takes.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

By going to local gigs, small and big.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Be a businessman which I'm not.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

Dutch band 'Non Alignment Pact', Geman 'The Gatsbys', US 'Thicker', "Fieldcrest' and "Friendship Commanders'. Another great discovery I made recently is Greek band "Puta Volcano' highly recommended. And of course my own studio project 'Siren's Sky'.
