Eric Butterfield

Story

Eric Butterfield is a singer/songwriter from Northern California, where he performs as a solo acoustic act. His songs tell stories that are personal, yet universal. His sound is influenced by everything from indie rock to spaghetti westerns. His music has appeared in more than 240 TV episodes on major broadcast and cable networks, including NBC (Last Call With Carson Daly), MTV, TLC, Animal Planet (Last Chance Highway), BBC America, Discovery (Porter Ridge), National Geographic Explorer, and Bravo. His song "Teriza" appeared in a video narrated by Ashley Judd, "Help Save Idaho's Wolves" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qK1mZ4fL6Pk). His as-yet-unreleased song, “In Love With Love,” was a semi-finalist in the 2018 Song of the Year competition. His first single, “Wake Me in Paris,” a ballad about long-distance romance, was a semi-finalist in both the 2017 International Songwriting Competition (in the unsigned category) and the 2018 Unsigned Only music contest. The song was produced and co-written by Scott Mickelson. Eric also puts out music as Sons of the Golden West (www.sotgw.com). The title track from a six-song EP released in 2016, “Oh, California!”, was included on “The Next Big Thing” show on KALX at U.C. Berkeley. Eric is a fourth-generation Californian whose West Coast roots inform a sense of a rapidly changing landscape and a history being lost. Travel and wanderlust play a big role in his songs, having backpacked the length of South America and the breadth of Western Europe. Along the way, he paused long enough to play in a band in Dublin, Ireland. Before settling in Sonoma County, he made music in San Francisco, Oakland, and Denver, Colorado. Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

Too many to mention. How about, "Crocodile Rock" by Elton John.

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Too many to mention. I grew up on the Beatles and Led Zeppelin. I'm a big fan of The Who. I went to college and fell in love with the Replacements. I'm a new fan of Ryan Adams. I like Nick Drake and the inspirations that followed, from the likes of Elliott Smith. I could go on and on....
