Dylan Longworth

Story

19 year old Dylan Longworth is a singer-songwriter, guitarist and pianist. With everything in his discography produced and engineered in his home in Elkin, North Carolina, he is a pop, pop rock, and R&B artist. His musical style takes inspiration from the likes of Lauv, Chase Atlantic & Ed Sheeran to name just a few. Most notably, Dylan Longworth has an innate ability to capture feelings of heartbreak, sadness & unrequited love through his music, Keen to show versatility within his own recordings, Dylan continues to shake off the notion of having a set genre, choosing to instead create songs with hip-hop, pop & even punk influences. After receiving a diagnosis of Asperger's syndrome at the age of 7, the notion of fitting in wasn't easy. But Dylan Longworth fueled his passion for music via performances at local karaoke spots, quickly building himself up as a recognizable character within his small home town. Described by his peers as "a charismatic young man, harnessing the vocal energy of the greats", Dylan picked up both piano & the guitar at the ages of 6 & 14. Further inspiration within Dylan's music comes from Jon Bellion & Jeremy Zucker. Spreading a message of openness and honesty, Dylan Longworth strives for his music to connect with people in the hope it can provide reassurance for those going through low points in their life & that we shouldn't be afraid to show our true feelings. ~ Rachael Scarsbrook, Music Gateway

What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music to me is a very distinct and clear way of conveying ones feelings, and that is what it does for me. It's much easier to write in a song what I'm feeling than to talk about it. Basically, music speaks when words can't.

What is your music dream?

My music dream is to be able to just, do this full time! I would love to own a record label and recording studio! It would be cool to have a cult or small following of very dedicated fans, I don't need full stadiums, just people that enjoy me enough to be fans :)

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

I would start with making sure people distinguish opinion and politics from basic facts and rights. Once we get that down, that's half the battle I think.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

When I Was Your Man by Bruno Mars! That was the first song that I sang in front of a crowd at a karaoke bar, and was the moment I realized music was something I wanted to pursue.

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Wow, I don't know where to start... Underground artists, probably people like Brakence, Alexander 23, Aries, Clinton Kane, gnash, god so many. Some mainstream artists that I like a lot would be Ed Sheeran of course, but also Jeremy Zucker, Lauv. Artists in that poppy realm are my fav.

What inspires you to make music?

The main thing that inspires me to make music is knowing that someone can hear my music and relate to my problems or struggles. If I can touch at least one person with my music, I've succeeded.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

Probably that it's okay to have feelings and to show them and have conversations. I find that it's a struggle to talk about my emotions and dark thoughts, and there are always gonna be people around you that you can talk to and open up with.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

I don't really perform a lot... I used to get nervous, but the more recent performances I have had the most fun with! It's awesome to have energy to feed off of from the crowd or audience.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

If I understand this question right, musicians currently are very open and real with their fans. I feel like there used to be such a big disconnect between the artist and the listener, and social media and the internet has made it so much easier to talk and communicate with your favorite artists.

What do you think of Drooble?

Honestly, I've never had as much fun setting up an artist profile because it's always tedious and boring, but Drooble makes it exciting! I love it so far :)

What frustrates you most as a musician?

I think what frustrates me most is the fact that I can make music and put it out, but I have such a hard time with the promotion and marketing side. If I were to be better in that aspect, I'd be unstoppable I think.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

There aren't really a lot of artists in my area of North Carolina, but I obviously am a massive fan of the rap scene ever since people like J Cole or DaBaby had come on the scene.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Hmm... I think it's three things; catchy lyrics, solid and somewhat unique melodies and an okay marketing strategy.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

Two of my best friends actually! Prxd. Jay is a producer and artist from Long Island, and makes a very Anti Pop style of music. Kyo is another artist that I love! Very versatile hip hop artist, does different stuff from Trap, traditional hip hop, and is very good at screaming xD
