Doug Kelley

Doug Kelley – Music Bio

August 18, 2018 — Doug Kelley is a songwriter / musician and producer of his own songs. He began playing guitar in 1970 at age 11. He primarily plays guitar, but also plays bass and a little bit on the keyboard all of which he generally plays for all of his songs. He does not currently play live. He formed a group back in 1977 which he named, “Tabu.” His group played original as well as popular songs in several local venues in the Black Hills of South Dakota. He was able to record one of his songs (My Lady) in a local studio, but the song was never fully mastered. In 1981, he got married and that was about the end of his playing and songwriting. He did practice occasionally, but it was rare. Fast forward to 2016, and he decided to reprise his music after a 35-year absence. So, he converted his study into a small home recording studio and began recording songs that he had written nearly four decades previously. He continues to record his previously-written songs, and has begun writing again. He does not record/produce his music to make money; he primarily does it because he enjoys it and loves his own music. He allows downloads of his music on ReverbNation for those who might also enjoy it. His page can be accessed at www.dougkelley.com. His favorite music genre is soft rock, or “Mellow Rock” (as he calls it). His music is reminiscent of the 1970’s-era music which he grew up with and which he feels is some of the best music ever recorded. Currently, his studio equipment consists of a PreSonus StudioLIve 24.4.2 mixer, a Windows PC running Windows 7 optimized for audio recording, and several outboard rack units including: - Warm Audio TB12 Tone Beast Microphone Preamp - Warm Audio WA-2A Optical Compressor - Warm Audio WA76 Limiting Amplifier - FMR Really Nice Compressor 1773 - FMR Really Nice Preamp 8380 - DBX 286s Preamp - TC-Helicon VoiceWorks Plus This gear is housed in a custom studio desk which he built in May/June 2017. His microphone locker currently contains 34 microphones including two Warm Audio WA-87’s (Neumann U87 clones). He owns six guitars and two keyboards (Yamaha MOTIF 8 and Yamaha YPG-535), a MIDI keyboard, and other related equipment such as pedals and amps. He uses Reaper Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) along with several VST plugins for mastering. He favors Waves.com plugins, particularly the CLA Vocals and other CLA plugins. In his “other life,” he is known as Dr. Doug Kelley and founded a metaphysical church and two online metaphysics schools in 2010 with nearly 1,000 students in over 60 countries. His schools teach many topics including spiritual counseling, life coaching, hypnosis, holistic healing, organizational leadership, metaphysical science, and others.
