GodsZoo are a 4 piece band from the East Kilbride area. We are hard to place in any one genre as we are influenced by lots of diverse types of music and our original songs cross and borrow from many different areas. If we were to be pigeonholed I guess you would call us punk/rock/industrial. Our influences are as broad as our style, ranging from The Cure. Pixies, Stranglers, Velvet Underground, Joy Division, to Churches, Jeff Beck, Rush , Led Zeppelin and Gary Numan. As long as the music has attitude and tells a story it has an impact on us. We have a huge back catalogues of original songs for a band that have only been in existence for 18 months some (80 plus tunes) and rarely like to do covers. However when we do we try to make them our own. Most of us have been playing on bands for many years and do this only for the love of music. We often play serious, brooding music but don’t take ourselves seriously. It's all about having fun and hopping our audience do too. We use a lot of visuals in our shows to make this as much of an experience as possible. Currently we are working on our first album at Riverside Studios in Busby which is a bit like a second home for most of us.
It’s pretty much everything to me. It’s the best way I’ve found to express myself. when I’m performing I’m someone else entirely.
For people to like what I do. if I resonate with one person in a song then its worthwhile.
Hatred would be banned and Liam Gallagher would lose his voice forever.
Not one song but I was there when punk arrived and I thought, one day that will be me. I know I’m not alone in that respect but not sure where music today would be without it. taught me you don’t need to be a classically trained musician to make music. in fact I would imagine being classically trained would have probably been a hindrance to me.
As I’ve got older my tastes haven’t changed but have certainly got broader. I like music that has attitude. it’s an emotional thing for me. no emotion in a song bores me. I have always loved the Cure. Musically mostly the early Dark trilogy albums and lyrically Robert Smith has influenced me heavily. I also think Marilyn Manson is a genius and not appreciated as much as he should be.
Tough question? It’s what I know and who I am. It’s the part of me I actually like. It’s how I deal with my emotions and my dark spells. I can say in a song things I’d never be able to voice otherwise.
I’m not sending a message. I write for me but know I’m nothing unique. However, if I provoke any response apart from apathy I’m happy.
Like a Rock God?. I feel like I’m somebody else, someone I’d rather be. A better version of me anyway. When you hear people singing your lyrics along with you it’s the best feeling ever.
In the old days getting heard was the problem as there was no outlet. nowadays there’s almost too much music out there so it’s harder to find the stuff you want to listen to. I’m guessing many amazing bands and artists will be lost in the crowd.
So far so good. It’s only been two days. People seem genuine. I hope to learn a lot from my fellow drooblers ?
That my playing sucks?.
I try to talk to as many local musicians as possible and support local gigs etc. I’d rather see a new band in the pub than say the Arctic Monkeys in an arena.
Patience and technical savvy. something unique always helps.
So far I’ve heard some great stuff on here. in the midst of so many cover bands elsewhere it’s reassuring to hear so many people doing their own thing. Check out Jo Mango. These guys were Oh Wonder before Oh Wonder existed. Jo has the voice of an angel. A local band I like are called The Rhubarb. kinda Sonic Youth. Check them out too.
