David Mattas

Christian Bass Player

I’m a Christian bass player. I’ve played in a few original bands as well as secular cover bands. I’m endorsed by Hartke and Rattlesnake Cable Company. Not a flash player. Purely pocket type of guy. Have opened for P.O.D., War of Ages, Stephanie Smith, Chris Sligh to name a few. Have recorded a cd with a band I co-founded named “Sacred Thorn” back in 2011. Have played red dirt, classic rock, country, and Praise and Worship. I currently have a EBMM Stingray 4H. This is my main bass. I also have a Greg Stinnett Signature Samick Acoustic Bass. My rig is a GK MB112 and a GK MBP112. I use a Hartke VXL Bass Attack, Hartke Fuzz, Hartke Chorus, and a Korg PB2 Tuner on a pedaltrain nano+. I’m married and have 5 adult children.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

It’s my savior. If it weren’t for music, I can honestly say that I wouldn’t be here today. Music is my escape as well as my reality. Whether I’m playing or listening to others, it grabs a hold of my soul and takes me to a higher plane.

What is your music dream?

I’m 50 years old. I no longer have any sort of dream. I just want to continue playing and learning from other like minded musicians.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

My parents got divorced when I was 9 years old. I discovered KISS at the time. Destroyer had just come out. Saved my money until I was able to buy it. God of Thunder was my anthem at the time.

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

KISS, AC/DC, ZZ Top, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, CCR, Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller, Larry Graham, Joe Bonamassa, Bloodline, Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Petra, Whitecross, Whiteheart, Bloodgood, Stryper, Zach Williams, and the list goes on and on.

What inspires you to make music?

Life experiences whether it be good or bad.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

At present, I want people to know that when they hear it, they will want to worship and praise the Lord.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

I get into the music and I few as though I’m outside looking in. It’s spiritual. God gave me the gift and I intend on using it to praise Him.

What do you think of Drooble?

still new.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

I’m not as good as I should be for the time I’ve been playing. I’m in a huge rut and don’t have the motivation to practice anymore.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

I do but not as much as I should. I work two jobs and have very little extra time.
