David Fowler

David's Story

Started playing guitar in Jr. High and began writing songs soon after that. Sang at tons of weddings (and that's counting only the weight of the brides). I"m married with three urchins. Have a degree in Music Ed. I work in the church. Started recording at home with a 4 track reel to reel in the 70s. Then 4 track cassettes... then mini disk, then a zoom r16, Dabbled with the stereo input of my computers, and had enough success there that I purchased an interface. I used Apple's "Logic DAW" till Apple orphaned their own software through an OS update and said, "just buy the new one" as their upgrade plan. Tried several DAWs and have become a fan of Reaper. I also collaborate with folks on OHMstudio.com. Great place to get tracks played for free and to offer tracks for free...and to learn some mixing/mastering skills. Mostly I record these days with a mobile setup. Macbook Air, Instrument(s), interface w/ either mic or plug-in depending on the ambient noise of the setting, and headphones. I'm looking forward to setting up (at least) semi-permanently so I spend less time plugging and more time picking. I also do acoustic instrument repair, guitar set ups, and have busied myself building cajons for sale...to earn pocket money to support my music habit. My enjoyment of Drooble is mostly in discussing and having my music be heard by strangers and get some feedback form them. With music, I feel I am always learning, and always seeking to improve my skills. I'm not as good at any of this as many of you, but I'm better than I was a few years ago.

Music is where I discover things about myself and others.

Sharing, writing songs, collaborating.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

Me, I have a lot to work on... then maybe the neighborhood.

Fire and Rain

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

James Taylor, and others in the singer/songwriter mode.

Often hearing music, or playing with others

What is the message you want to send with your music?

Depends on the song. Sometimes humor, Sometimes spiritual expressions, sometimes love songs. Basic positive messages, or sarcasm. :-)

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

I enjoy it. And it sometimes surprises me the heightened emotion of it.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

The ability to record and share is greatly improved with the digital age. The ability to stand out in the crowd of zeros and ones is difficult.

What do you think of Drooble?

I'm just a Nooble, and I barely understand what's up with the Karma thing. But it seems like a way to get to know some folks.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

When the phone rings or the AC comes on when I 'm recording.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

Attend concerts. Play for public events... mostly church related. Host a jam session.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Have to be a giver. Have to do something value added.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.
