Story

I started freestyling when I was 18. I used to carry a recording device wherever I went for spur of the moment rap. I'm 38 now and still dislike doing chorus's. I'm bad at them. I'd rather not be the one slicing and dicing for a song. I never went to school for production so mine kind of lacks but I understand that creativity is more important to most so I post stuff that often has a bad recording because it was done spur of the moment probably outside somewhere or in whatever vehicle I have at the time. At the moment I'm using garage band on my ipad for instrumentals n such. If anyone wants to collab I am down. hit me up.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music is my livelyhood and probably always will be. It has crushed me and rebuilt me several times over. I keep coming back stronger & I don't see that ever stopping. I'm Just a Midwesterner trying to continue to grow and keep myself balanced.

What is your music dream?

I don't usually hear music in my dreams. Do you?

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

Scarred from many of battle rap sessions with various experienced rappers. 6 tournaments, none of which I won. When I go on stage now I am kind of lost in those memories of choking on stage. If I do go on more stages I'll be ready to face those memories and shed them as I make a new.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

IMO there is a lot to be gained by freestyle. It can help you find a hook or just even some lines that were funny and should be put in a song. Rappers are too serious these days, IMO so many put themselves in a box without realizing it by repping too much hardness. Music is supposed to be enjoyed by all not meant to make others revere your toughness. Eyedea(RIP) was capable of a lot talented to a T and his best buddy Kristoff Krane(Absorbr)(Also very dope rapper) Gave me some mentoring 1 summer. Thanks Chris!

What do you think of Drooble?

Drooble is promising and capable of things I am just starting to understand. It will probably take a ton of soundclouds business lol.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

My memory. I have a traumatic brain injury that has severely/moderately wrecked my memory. I can't remember my lyrics for crap so thats why I freestyle usually. A few Producers I've worked with didn't like my writing and my ability to ride the beat but they'd been witness to my freestyle onslaught and they've told me to just freestyle. I hear Snoop Dogg freestyles most of his work.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

I used to. Before 2010(I got liver disease spent 3 months in the hospital fighting for my life) I used to go to shows all the time and participate in local battle tournaments. I never won one but won a few individual battles. I shine better just freestyling instead of battling. The idea of focusing on one thing whilst trying to tell a story is difficult for me. I'd prefer to focus on things all around me and my headstate that day to get across my point of view. I haven't been to a show in probably 8 years. I finally beat liver disease 2011 but not being able to drink and being financially ruined shut off my hunger for shows. As well as some beef that is still a issue. I mostly went to shows to rap outside them in ciphers. I miss that. Trying to get back on the horse without alcohol has been difficult. I've got 4 months 30 days without alcohol and before that relapse I had almost 5 years. So my battle has set music on the table for the time being.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Self-starter. Someone that can rap or make their music in front of others without being overcome by choking or embarrassment. You have to have some worldliness about you and probably be familiar with your local train tracks. Probably should have lived in a lot of random places. Spent time out of state living abroad for a half year or so. See picking qualities of a musician has two sides to that coin. If you are someone who only plays things they've either written or is from someone else it is easier. If you have to come up with it off the top of your head infront of people thats when things get interesting and difficult.
