Chance Munsterman

Story

For almost 25 years, Chance has been writing and playing original music as well as entertaining people from all over, with an eclectic blend of acoustic rock that spans genres from classic to alternative sounds. Performing with numerous bands in North Texas has helped shape Chance as an emerging artist as well as brought a new wave of inspiration to release new material. Singing is his primary role, but he brings a unique, somewhat unfinished approach to the guitar giving his music a feeling of raw energy and passion. Drawing influences from bands such as Pink Floyd, Matchbox 20, Counting Crows and Jackopierce, Chance continues to write music that not only tells a story but also elicits an energy that, “just makes you feel good.” Currently, Chance writes, produces and performs his own songs, as well as hosts a weekly interview style and live music broadcast titled “Live at Chance's House” on YouTube and Twitch, which due to the recent pandemic is literally at his house. 2021 marked a new collaboration with Rob Gaylard of The Nomadic and they recently performed in New York, with plans to play in Texas in 2022 as well as Nashville mid year. Chance has two upcoming singles scheduled for release. "The Mountain" and "Back from the Mist: Live from Arlene's Grocery, New York." They are both coming soon with more new releases already planned for the rest of the year and into 2022.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music feeds my soul and intellect. I'm always learning how to hone my abilities as an artist and there is nothing more free than to sit with your thoughts and contemplate the next verse or chorus of a song. It's gives me the opportunity to say what I mean and mean what I say, but in a way that can hopefully speak to wide variety of other people's thoughts.

What is your music dream?

I've technically already had it several times over. I wanted to play my songs live in front of thousands of people... check. I wanted to have a CD with my name on it full of original music... check. I wanted to touch someone else's life in a positive way... check. I wanted to have a song played on Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon... check. I wanted someone other than a friend or family member to buy a song... check. I wanted to have a song played on FM radio... check. I wanted to be a part of a musical collaboration that challenged me to me better... check. Everything else is that happens is icing on the cake.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

I would bring back compassion and reduce selfishness.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

Summer Nights by Van Halen

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Pink Floyd, Rush, Van Halen, Pearl Jam, Jackopierce, Steely Dan, Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against the Machine, Soundgarden and Counting Crows.

What inspires you to make music?

Usually I write sappy love songs, however these usually come from thoughts of being sad. More recently I have found writing about other people's lives and experiences, and their impact on me, much more appealing than writing about my own, otherwise i think I would have a much darker catalog of music.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

Hope

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

Like a 12 year old experiencing rock music for the first time.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

The reality is that for an unsigned artist, unless you have enough money to promote what you do to a large audience, the ROI is bleak. It's a numbers game and a true investment in business to be successful, however this outlook could be improved if there was network of musicians all banding together to support, encourage and help each other navigate through the mess that is the music industry... oh wait... I think that Drooble is trying that out.

What do you think of Drooble?

So far I like it... let's see if if the platform can gain an audience more than just musicians. I just found out about it and I'm pretty tuned in to what offerings there are for artists.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Marketing

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

Yes... by supporting others as much as I support myself. Networking and collaboration makes al the difference in the world. Combining networks is powerful as long as ego doesn't get in the way. Stay humble and help others.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Be open to feedback and don't believe that what your doing is better. Maintain perspective.
