What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

First, know your craft, do research, learn your music theory, take lessons, build a foundation. Then when you know you have a quality product, DON'T TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER! Don't listen to what negative people say! If it's constructive criticism, that has its place.
