This is a frightening thought, "musician's reality". I worked with a world class drummer over the years who was just a dick so most people wouldn't deal with him. My advice is "don't be a dick"?
I've only been here a week so I don't know exactly what i'm doing here. I write songs because that's the only creative thing I can do that's creative. I may be different because I'm not trying to make a name for myself or compete with anyone.

I repair acoustic guitars for struggling musicians. I cleaned out my shed and donated a PA and guitar amps for an All Girl Band Rehearsal Space.
Know how to not over play and leave them wanting more. Everyone should practice singing and learn what sounds best in their voice. I think times have finally changed and don't pretend you know something about philosophy. Musicians don't care about social issues and neither do the rich people who hire you.
