Since I settled in my home in Randolph, MA around 2012, I have been building a unique music studio full of old gear mostly pre-Y2k.. My first real DAW was Digital Performer 3 running on an OS9 G4 Mac Circa 2001. I've managed to re assemble and build a modern tribute to that setup and also acquire a lot of old synths effects and other instruments that are old enough to drink legally, if a synth could buy alcohol.. I enjoy finding lesser known (and often underrated) instruments to come up with a unique setup that can't be found in any plugin. I could never afford "the good stuff" so instead I enjoy surrounding myself with old hardware and the ups and downs that come with it to make unique sounds and sonic possibilities. All of this thanks to a very understanding and supportive wife. :)
I've been heavily inspired and moved by music of many genres and artists over the decades and centuries.. I would hope that i could produce work that passes this on to others to feel something special and make them feel as lucky as I do that we have this life to live as fully as possible.
Initially I would love to be able to have the time needed to explore and produce my vast collection of past ideas recorded over the years and simply see so many potentially cool original riffs and ideas see the light of day.
Reducing the world population through gradual human reproductive control.. it's the single biggest reason the world is in the condition that it's in environmentally and socially.
The Eve of the War - Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of War of the Worlds
so many great artists out there but just to randomly pick some: slow dive, boards of canada, ulrich schauss, coil, john zorn, steeleye span, cranes, elysian fields, cypress hill, nine inch nails, alphaville, they might be giants, pinback, splashdown, joe satriani, pink floyd, dresden dolls, james horner, vangelis, andreas vollenweider, enya, dead can dance, vengeance rising, believer, scattered few, mad at the world, tourniquet
sitting down and playing around with guitars, synths and effects. tinkering leads to inspiration.
I could make up something witty, but honestly I don't have a message and I need to work on that as I believe it's good to have a message to send. I just haven't found it yet. For me, music often comes through experimenting and chance and a lot of my past work was often me capturing something live and in the moment.. so in a way maybe that's it. Beauty and sound fleeting moments and to remember them before they are gone.
Honored that people would be willing to take some of their time to listen to what I have to offer.
Same as ever really. People creating something by manipulating sound waves.. as for improving anything, I don't really see anything wrong with musicians. However if I have to come up with something, perhaps more collaboration. Not looking for people who agree with them, but perhaps embracing artists who are very different and seeing what comes from it. We could have a lot more exciting musical creations come from that rather than people trying to hard to sound a certain preconceived way.
I like it so far.
I don't see myself as a frustrated musician, however if I have to come up with something, perhaps the lack of networking opportunities with more musicians in my area. I'm busy like a lot of people, but it would be cool if there was some kind of meet up that just allowed musicians to mingle and talk and swap ideas and jam.
I don't as much as I'd like, but my wife and I are looking to start going to a local open mic night and get out and see more local acts.
Well social media of course and having videos youtube and such seem to be pretty important these days. More and more music is being heard on mobile devices rather than home stereo systems and this can mean considering mixing music to sound good on cell phones and other non-traditional electronic devices like Alexa devices.
